The Tam O'Shanter Golf Course is located in Niles, Illinois. The north branch of the Chicago River flows through the course. The course and clubhouse were previously owned by George S. May and are currently under the ownership of the Niles Park District. Chicago River
The Chicago River is a system of rivers and canals with a combined length of that runs through the city of Chicago, including its center (the Chicago Loop). All American Open
The All American Open was a golf tournament on the PGA Tour in the 1940s and 1950s. It was played at the Tam O'Shanter Country Club in Niles, Illinois. It was run by George S. May and was originally known as the Tam O'Shanter National Open. From 1944 to 1946 it offered $10,000 winner's prize. The purses dropped to normal PGA Tour levels when May added the World Championship of Golf to the events played at Tam O'Shanter. May eventually added men's amateur, women's open, and women's amateur "All American" and "World Championship" events, all played at Tam O'Shanter over a two-week period in August. The tournaments were cancelled in 1958 in a dispute between May and the PGA over player entrance fees. The World Championship of Golf was a championship played on the PGA Tour in the 1940s and 1950s that, in its latter years, boasted a purse that dwarfed every other event on the tour, including even the U.S. Open. It was played in August of each year at the Tam O'Shanter Country Club, in Niles, Illinois. Chandler Harper
John Chandler Harper (March 10, 1914 – November 8, 2004) was an American professional golfer, best known for winning the PGA Championship in 1950. He won seven times on the PGA Tour and played in the Ryder Cup in 1955. Harper was born, raised and lived his entire life in Portsmouth, Virginia. Lewis Elmer Worsham, Jr. (October 5, 1917 – October 19, 1990) was an American professional golfer, the U.S. Open champion Life and career Worsham was born on October 5, 1917, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. He grew up in Long Island, Virginia. Worsham attended Hampton High School and was a member of the golf team from 1933 to 1935. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Worsham won the U.S. Open in 1947 by defeating Sam Snead by a stroke in an 18-hole playoff at the St. Louis Country Club in Clayton, Missouri.
