Talpa is an unincorporated area, unincorporated community in Coleman County, Texas, United States. According to the ''Handbook of Texas'', the community had an estimated population of 127 in 2000. Geography Talpa is located at (31.7765369, -99.7095226). It is situated along U.S. Route 67, U.S. Highway 67 in west-central Coleman County, less than 20 miles from Ballinger, Texas, Ballinger to the west and Coleman, Texas, Coleman to the east. Climate The climate in this area is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. According to the Köppen climate classification system, Talpa has a humid subtropical climate, ''Cfa'' on climate maps. History The community was founded in the early 1880s. Roxy Lee Gordon (March 7, 1945 – February 7, 2000) was an American poet, novelist, musician, multimedia artist, and activist. Santa Fe Railroad
The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway , often referred to as the Santa Fe or AT&SF, was one of the larger railroads in the United States. The railroad was chartered in February 1859 to serve the cities of Atchison and Topeka, Kansas, and Santa Fe, New Mexico. The railroad reached the Kansas–Colorado border in 1873 and Pueblo, Colorado, in 1876. To create a demand for its services, the railroad set up real estate offices and sold farmland from the land grants that it was awarded by Congress. Coleman County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 7,684. The county seat is Coleman. The county was founded in 1858 and organized in 1864. It is named for Robert M. Coleman, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence and soldier at the Battle of San Jacinto.
