Talmage is an Unincorporated area, unincorporated community in Dickinson County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 United States census, 2020 census, the population of the city was 78. History In 1887, the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway (ATSF) built a branch line from Neva, Kansas, Neva (three miles west of Strong City, Kansas, Strong City) through Talmage to Superior, Nebraska. In 1996, the ATSF merged with the Burlington Northern Railroad, forming the current BNSF Railway. Most locals still refer to this railroad as the "Santa Fe". The post office was established on December 22, 1887. Geography Talmage is located in northwestern Dickinson County, just south of state highway K-18 (Kansas highway), K-18 in the valley of Mud Creek. Abilene (pronounced ) is a city in, and the county seat of, Dickinson County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 6,460. It is home of The Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum and the Greyhound Hall of Fame. History 19th century In 1803, most of modern Kansas was secured by the United States as part of the Louisiana Purchase. In 1854, the Kansas Territory was organized, then in 1861 Kansas became the 34th U.S. state. In 1857, Dickinson County was founded and Abilene began as a stage coach stop, established by Timothy Hersey and named Mud Creek. K-18 is a , west–east state highway in the U.S. State of Kansas. K-18's western terminus is at U.S. Route 24 (US-24) near Bogue and the eastern terminus is at K-99 south of Wamego. Portions of the highway have been upgraded to a freeway beginning in 2012. K-18 from US-81 to the western boundary of Lincoln County has been designated "Medal of Honor Recipient Donald K.
