Little Richard
Richard Wayne Penniman (December 5, 1932 – May 9, 2020), known professionally as Little Richard, was an American musician, singer, and songwriter. He was an influential figure in popular music and culture for seven decades. Described as the " Architect of Rock and Roll", Richard's most celebrated work dates from the mid-1950s, when his charismatic showmanship and dynamic music, characterized by frenetic piano playing, pounding back beat and raspy shouted vocals, laid the foundation for rock and roll. Richard's innovative emotive vocalizations and uptempo rhythmic music also played a key role in the formation of other popular music genres, including soul and funk. He influenced numerous singers and musicians across musical genres from rock to hip hop; his music helped shape rhythm and blues for generations. Soul music is a popular music genre that originated in the African American community throughout the United States in the late 1950s and early 1960s. It has its roots in African-American gospel music and rhythm and blues. ''Right Now!'' is a studio album by Little Richard, released in 1974. It was released without much publicity on the United Records label. The album features "Chain Chain Chain", more commonly known under the title "Chain of Fools". History ''Right Now!'' was recorded in January 1973, at Cadet Records, Los Angeles, California, and issued with no publicity as a low-budget LP. Richard himself recalled that: "We were about to start a tour and we needed some money. So Robert "Bumps" Blackwell and me got a deal for one album with an advance of ten thousand dollars from Kent Modern. We went into the studio and did it in one night. ''K-tel Presents Little Richard Live! 20 Super Hits'' is Little Richard's first album of new material since 1974, and the first album he had recorded since 1973.White, Charles. (2003). ''The Life and Times of Little Richard: The Authorised Biography''. Omnibus Press. Recorded at the Jack Clement Studio in Nashville, the album featured remakes of twenty of his Specialty Records tracks. If you count live takes, this was actually the fifth or sixth time that Richard had recorded his classic mid-1950s hits. Despite the album's title, the tracks are studio recordings, not live performances. These August 1976 sessions and an early 1990s set with Japanese guitarist, Masayoshi Takanakka, are the last times that Penniman would re-record his mid-1950s hits for a studio album before Penniman's death in May 2020. Vee-Jay Records is an American record label founded in the 1950s, located in Chicago and specializing in blues, jazz, rhythm and blues and rock and roll. The label was founded in Gary, Indiana in 1953 by Vivian Carter and James C. Bracken, a husband-and-wife team who used their initials for the label's name.Thompson, Dave (2002). ''Little Richard Is Back (And There's a Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On!)'' is Little Richard's first album of rock and roll songs for Vee-Jay Records. The label went out of business and its records were not accurate, leaving many to speculate about the recording details. Despite claims to the contrary, Jimi Hendrix does not play on any of the album's songs. Background After leaving Specialty Records in 1957 to record gospel music, Richard recorded twenty tracks for Goldner Records in the summer of 1959, in New York City, on his break from Bible College, in Huntsville, Alabama. Although tempted back to record rock and roll with his old band the Upsetters for Little Star Records in 1962, he soon went back to gospel, recording for Atlantic Records in 1963. A successful British tour finally made Richard return to his rock and roll roots, and tracks for singles were cut in 1964 with Specialty, though not enough for an album.
