Hard Rock
Hard rock or heavy rock is a loosely defined subgenre of rock music typified by aggressive vocals and distorted electric guitars. Hard rock began in the mid-1960s with the garage, psychedelic and blues rock movements. Some of the earliest hard rock music was produced by the Kinks, the Who, The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Cream, Vanilla Fudge, and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. In the late 1960s, bands such as Blue Cheer, the Jeff Beck Group, Iron Butterfly, Led Zeppelin, Golden Earring, Steppenwolf and Deep Purple also produced hard rock. The genre developed into a major form of popular music in the 1970s, with the Who, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple being joined by Queen, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Kiss, and Van Halen. Shrapnel Records
Shrapnel Records is an American record label founded in 1980 by record producer Mike Varney. History Guitarist Marty Friedman (formerly of Megadeth and Cacophony), one of the label's most successful artists, first appeared on the album ''Unsung Guitar Heroes II'' in 1980 with the band Vixen. Vixen would later change their name to Hawaii and release the album '' One Nation Underground'' for Shrapnel. In 1981, a friend gave Mike Varney a tape featuring a 17-year-old Swedish guitarist named Yngwie Malmsteen. A year later, Malmsteen wrote to the label stating that he wanted to export his music to America. Varney, who started writing a column called "Spotlight" for ''Guitar Player'' magazine in 1982, featured Malmsteen in his February 1983 column. The record executive flew Yngwie to California and set him up with vocalist Ron Keel's new band called Steeler. Steeler's self-titled album became a best selling release for Shrapnel Records. AllMusic (previously known as All Music Guide and AMG) is an American online music database. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands. Stacey David Blades is a guitarist originally from Toronto Canada, who has played with such bands as Fraidy Katt, Roxx Gang, Supercool, L.A. Guns, and Electric Radio Kings. He has played on the L.A. Guns studio albums ''Rips the Covers Off'', '' Tales from the Strip'', '' Covered in Guns'', and '' Hollywood Forever'', and the L.A. Guns live album '' Loud and Dangerous: Live from Hollywood''. He authored a book ''Confessions of a Replacement Rockstar'' in 2009 Via Booksurge and Amazon. In 2009, Blades released his first guitar instrumental solo album called ''Symphonic Slam'' on Cleopatra Records. At the end of 2012, Blades decided to leave L.A. Guns to pursue more personal opportunities for performing and songwriting. He worked with Sony Music designing and writing guitar loop packages. ''Rips the Covers Off'', some copies of which are titled ''Rips Off the Covers'', is an album by Phil Lewis's version of L.A. Guns, their first with guitarist Stacey Blades. The studio portion of the album (songs 1-11) consists of cover songs with guitarist Stacey Blades, though songs 12 and 13 are live versions of "Revolution" and "Don't Look at Me That Way", with guitarists Keri Kelli and Brent Muscat. Phil Lewis (musician)
Philip Francis Lewis (born 9 January 1957) is an English musician, best known as the vocalist and guitarist for the American glam metal band L.A. Guns. Born in London, Lewis has lived and worked in the U.S. since the 1980s but was privately educated at Royal Russell School in Surrey. Early work Lewis started the band Girl with guitarist Gerry Laffy in 1978. They put an advertisement in ''Melody Maker'' for a "peroxide guitar hero," and Phil Collen (current guitarist of Def Leppard) answered. They were soon joined by drummer Dave Gaynor and bassist Mark Megary. Megary was replaced shortly thereafter by Laffy's brother, Simon Laffy. They signed a record deal with Don Arden's label, Jet Records in 1979 and released their first album, ''Sheer Greed'', in 1980. Adam Hamilton (musician)
Adam Hamilton is a Los Angeles-based music producer, songwriter, and session musician. Hamilton was the bassist of glam metal band L.A. Guns from 2001 through 2007, again from June to September 2018 as their rhythm guitarist, and again as their studio drummer since 2020. He also played drums for 1990s alternative rock band Joe 90, and worked as session drummer for alternative/neo-psychedelic band The Brian Jonestown Massacre. Hamilton is a multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar, bass, keyboards, and drums. As a producer, Hamilton has produced albums for several well-known artists, the best known to date being William Shatner for the concept album ''Seeking Major Tom'' (2011). Steve Riley (drummer)
Steve Riley (born January 22, 1956) is an American rock drummer, best known for his work with Keel, W.A.S.P., and L.A. Guns. Career After graduating high school in the 70s, Riley moved to Los Angeles to pursue a music career. In 1979, he joined a revival of Steppenwolf, but the lineup broke up later that year. Riley joined up-and-coming L.A. band Keel and recorded their breakthrough album ''The Right to Rock'' with them in 1984. Later that year, Riley departed Keel to replace founding member Tony Richards in W.A.S.P., another L.A. band whose debut album had recently achieved gold status in sales. As a member of W.A.S.P., Riley performed on the albums '' The Last Command'', ''Inside the Electric Circus'', and '' Live...In the Raw''.
