''Tales from the Backseat'' is the debut studio album by Irish indie rock band The Academic, released on 12 January 2018 by Room 6 Records. It debuted at number 1 on the Irish Albums Chart and received generally favourable critical reception, with the album being nominated for Irish Record of the Year by RTE. Production ''Tales from the Backseat'' was produced by Tim Pagnotta and recorded in Los Angeles and London. The album was written when the band was in their teens. Release On 26 October 2017, the band released a new single "Permanent Vacation" and announced that their debut LP, ''Tales from the Backseat'', would be released on 12 January 2018. The Academic
The Academic are an Irish indie rock band, formed in Rochfortbridge, County Westmeath in 2013. The band consists of Craig Fitzgerald, Dean Gavin, and brothers Matthew and Stephen Murtagh. Their debut studio album, '' Tales from the Backseat'', was released in January 2018, entering the Irish Albums Chart at number one. The album was nominated for Album of the Year at the Choice Music Prize in January 2019. History Formation and early years (2013–2016) The Academic were formed in 2013, when Fitzgerald, Gavin and the Murtagh brothers were attending St Joseph's Secondary School, Rochfortbridge. Such was the reaction to the release of their debut EP, ''Loose Friends'', in October 2015, that the band sold out their first show at Dublin venue Vicar Street. The Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA) is a non-profit association set up in 1999 to promote certain interests of the music industry in Ireland. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are an American indie rock band formed in New York City in 2000. The Strokes
The Strokes are an American rock band from New York City. ''The Last Mixed Tape'' is an Irish-based daily music blog founded in February 2014 by critic and journalist Stephen White. The site is composed of reviews, interviews, and news features all written by White, specifically about the Dublin music scene. Although the site is listed as a blog, White has on several occasions distanced himself from the term, preferring to be called a "critic". Annie Mac (born 18 July 1978), is an Irish DJ, broadcaster and writer. She hosted a variety of shows on BBC Radio 1, including BBC Switch and ''Future Sounds''. She also DJed in various locations, including hosting her AMP (Annie Mac Presents) Lost and Found venues in places like Ibiza. Personal life Annie Mac was born in Dublin, Ireland on 18 July 1978. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock".
