Badminton At The Asian Games
Badminton has been one of the regular Asian Games sports since 1962 in Jakarta, Indonesia. History Badminton made its debut in the Asian Games as a demonstration sport at the 1958 Asian Games in Tokyo, Japan, and became a regular competitive sport in 1962. In the 1962 Games, six events were held, with singles, doubles and team event for both men and women. The mixed doubles event was added in 1966 Asian Games. There was a playoff between the two semifinal losers to determine the sole winner of the bronze medal in 1962; but since 1966, two bronze medals per event are awarded in each event (except in 1974). Competition Asian Games badminton consists of a single-elimination tournament. Each match is played to the best of three games, each game is of 21 points. Hendra Setiawan
Hendra Setiawan (born 25 August 1984) is an Indonesian badminton player. He is an Olympic Games gold medalist, four-time World Champion, two-time Asian Games gold medalist, and two-time All England champion. With these achievements, Setiawan has collected all major individual titles in badminton. He is considered to be one of the greatest men's doubles players in badminton history. Setiawan was ranked first in the men's doubles with two different partners. Together with Markis Kido, he achieved the world no. 1 in September 2007, and with Mohammad Ahsan in November 2013. He has collected six gold medals at the Southeast Asian Games with the acquisition of 3 in the men's doubles, and 3 in the team event. Mohammad Ahsan
Mohammad Ahsan (born 7 September 1987) is an Indonesian badminton player affiliated with Djarum club who specializes in the men's doubles. He is three-time World Champion, three-time season ending finals champion, and Asian Games gold medalist. Joining the Djarum club since 2007, opened Ahsan's opportunity to join the Indonesian national team until he finally implemented it in the middle of 2008. Paired with Bona Septano, they managed to win the bronze medal at the 2011 BWF World Championships, and were ranked as high as sixth in the BWF World Rankings. Ahsan broke the world's men's doubles stage when he teamed-up with Hendra Setiawan. The 2013 Asian Junior Badminton Championships is an Asia continental junior championships to crown the best U-19 badminton players across Asia. It was held in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia from 7–14 July 2013. The 2020 Badminton Asia Team Championships (also known as the 2020 Smart Badminton Asia Manila Team Championship due to sponsorship reasons) was staged at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila, Philippines, from 11 to 16 February 2020.
