Takshanuk Mountains
The Takshanuk Mountains are a mountain range in Alaska Panhandle, Southeast Alaska, United States that separate the Chilkoot River, Chilkoot and Chilkat River, Chilkat watersheds and also form the northern portion of the Chilkat Peninsula.
Notable peaks include Mount Ripinski, Peak 3920, and Tukgahgo Mountain.
Primary access to the mountains is via the community of Haines, Alaska, Haines or the Haines Highway.

A mountain range or hill range is a series of mountains or hills arranged in a line and connected by high ground. Alaska Panhandle
Southeast Alaska, colloquially referred to as the Alaska(n) Panhandle, is the southeastern portion of the U.S. state of Alaska, bordered to the east and north by the northern half of the Canadian province of British Columbia (and a small part the Yukon Territories). The majority of Southeast Alaska's area is part of the Tongass National Forest, the United States' largest national forest. Chilkoot River
The Chilkoot River is a river in Southeast Alaska, United States, that extends about from its source and covers a watershed area of . The source of the river is in the Takshanuk Mountains to the west and the Freebee glacier and unnamed mountains to the east. From its source, the upper reach of the river extends approximately to the point where it enters Chilkoot Lake. From the downstream end of the lake, the lower reach of the river flows for about until it enters the Chilkoot Inlet, a branch at the northern end of the Lynn Canal. At the head of the lower reach of the river, on the shore of the lake, lies a prehistoric village which was a Chilkoot Indian settlement. Chilkat River
The Chilkat River is a river in British Columbia and southeastern Alaska that flows southward from the Coast Range to the Chilkat Inlet and ultimately Lynn Canal. It is about long. It begins at Chilkat Glacier, in Alaska, flows west and south in British Columbia for , enters Alaska and continues southwest for another . It reaches the ocean at the abandoned area of Wells, Alaska and deposits into a long delta area. The river was named by the Russians for the Chilkat group of Tlingit, called /t͡ʃiɬqut/ in their own language, who lived in the region. The name means "salmon storehouse". Near the Chilkat River is the Alaska Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, where thousands of bald eagles appear between October and February, to take advantage of late salmon runs. Chilkat Peninsula
The Chilkat Peninsula is a peninsula in Lynn Canal, Southeast Alaska that divides the Chilkoot and Chilkat Inlets and divides the Chilkat and Chilkoot watersheds. The peninsula extends into Lynn Canal as well. Mount Ripinski
Mount Ripinski (sometimes Mount Ripinsky) is a mountain located immediately to the north of Haines, Alaska, Haines, Alaska at the southern terminus in the Takshanuk Mountains. Mount Ripinski is a popular day hike for local residents of Haines and features two distinct trails that converge on the south side of the summit. They are known as the Young Road Trail and the Piedad Cut-Off, and vary dramatically in difficulty and rate of altitude gain. Tukgahgo Mountain
Tukgahgo Mountain (TUG-a-ho) is a mountain in the Takshanuk Mountains in the U.S. state of Alaska with a peak elevation of . It is located in Haines Borough, to the southwest of Chilkoot Lake and to the southwest of Skagway. Geological investigations of the veins in the mountain have revealed silver, gold, platinum, and palladium mineralization, derived from mid-Cretaceous events. Geography Tukgahgo, an indigenous name given by the Tlingits, was recorded by geologist Eugene C. Robertson and published by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) in 1952. Tukgahgo is located southwest from Chilkoot, while Skagway is to the northeast. Vanderbilt Point is located west of Tukgahgo's summit. Haines (Tlingit: ''Deishú'') is a census-designated place located in Haines Borough, Alaska, United States. It is in the northern part of the Alaska Panhandle, near Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve. As of the 2020 census, the population of the Haines CDP was 1,657, down from 1,713 in 2010, concentrating 79.6% of Haines Borough's total population. History The original Native name for Haines was Deishú, meaning "end of the trail" by the Chilkat group of Tlingit. It received this name because they could portage (carry) their canoes from the trail they used to trade with the interior, which began at the outlet of the Chilkat River, to Dtehshuh and save of rowing around the Chilkat Peninsula. Haines Highway
The Haines Highway or Haines Cut-Off (and still often called the Haines Road) is a highway that connects Haines, Alaska, in the United States, with Haines Junction, Yukon, Canada, passing through the province of British Columbia. It follows the route of the old Dalton Trail from the port of Haines inland for about to Klukshu, Yukon, and then continues to Haines Junction. The highway is about long, of which is in Alaska. The highway was known as Yukon Highway 4 until 1978, when it was renumbered Highway 3. It has no number in British Columbia, but editions of ''The Milepost'' up to at least 2004 list it as Hwy 4, a number actually in use on Vancouver Island.
