Vice Admiral was commander of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force as well as an Flying ace, ace Fighter aircraft, fighter pilot in the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) during the Second Sino-Japanese War and the Pacific War, Pacific theater of World War II. In aerial combat over China and the Pacific, he was officially credited with destroying 10 enemy aircraft. During the Pacific campaign of World War II, Aioi participated in the Philippines campaign (1941–1942), conquest of the Philippines as a pilot aboard the aircraft carrier Japanese aircraft carrier Ryūjō, ''Ryūjō''. Later, he served as a group leader in the 202 Air Group in the Solomon Islands Campaign. Aioi experienced the Battle of Leyte Gulf aboard the carrier Japanese aircraft carrier Zuikaku, ''Zuikaku'' in 1944. He ended the war as executive officer of the 343 Air Group in Japan. was a Japanese bureaucrat and politician from Yūbari, Hokkaidō. After graduating from Hokkaido University, Takahide joined the Ministry of Construction in 1952 and was appointed as the ministry's administrative vice minister in June 1984. In March 1990, Takahide ran for the Yokohama mayoral election to succeed Michikazu Saigō, who died during his mayoralty the previous month.
