Taiwan Railway Class DR2800
The DR2800 series is a series of diesel multiple unit trains operated by the Taiwan Railways Administration as Tze-chiang limited express on non-electrified mainlines. They were originally built by Tokyu Car Corporation of Japan in 1982 for the Taiwan Railways Administration to provide better service on the eastern mainline of Taiwan. In early 1980s, the North-link line was completed, the Yilan line was expanded to double track, and the gauge of Taitung line was changed to 1067 mm. In response to the demand for air-conditioned express trains in eastern Taiwan, Taiwan Railways Administration ordered 10 sets of diesel multiple unit trains from Tokyu Car. These train sets were heavily specialized under license from Budd, and each set consists of 2 power driving cars and a trailer. The Tze-Chiang Express, also spelled "Tzu-chiang" or "Ziqiang" () is a type of express train service operated by the Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) in Taiwan. Of the five service classes operated by the TRA, the Tze-Chiang trains is the fastest category. Ticketing is done on the basis of mileage (NT$2.27 per km with a 10 km minimum fee). This service is operated with 7 different trainsets: the E1000 series, the EMU1200 (electric multiple unit), EMU300, TEMU1000 (''Taroko Express''), DR2800 (diesel multiple unit), DR3100, and the TEMU2000 (''Puyuma Express''). The North-Link Line () is the central section of the Eastern Line of the Taiwan Railways Administration. The length of its mainline is 79.2 km, and there is a 7.4 km long branch between Beipu and Hualien Port. History The high mountains and cliffs in eastern Taiwan, between Yilan and Hualien, is a major barrier to the transportation between northern Taiwan and eastern Taiwan. Yilan Line
The Yilan Line () is the northern section of the Eastern Line of the Taiwan Railways Administration in Taiwan. It has a length of 95 km. History This railroad was completed in 1924 as the Giran-sen during Imperial Japanese rule over Taiwan. It was expanded to two tracks in the early 1980s. In 2000, it was electrified between Badu and Luodong, while the remaining part was completed in 2003. On 4 December 2020, a landslide buried a section of the line between Houtong and Ruifang Station in Ruifang District, resulting in the rail service disruption along the line. Taitung Line
The Taitung Line (), also known as the Hua-Tung line (), is the southern section of the Eastern Line of the Taiwan Railways Administration. The line starts at the Hualien station and ends at the Taitung station. It is 161.5 km long, including the main segment of 155.7 km between Hualien and Taitung.
