Legislative Yuan
The Legislative Yuan is the unicameral legislature of the Republic of China (Taiwan) located in Taipei. The Legislative Yuan is composed of 113 members, who are directly elected for 4-year terms by people of the Taiwan Area through a parallel voting system. Originally located in Nanking, the Legislative Yuan, along with the National Assembly (electoral college) and the Control Yuan (upper house), formed the tricameral parliament under the original 1947 Constitution. The Legislative Yuan previously had 759 members representing each constituencies of all provinces, municipalities, Tibet, Outer Mongolia and various professions. Until democratization, the Republic of China was an authoritarian state under Dang Guo, the Legislative Yuan had alternatively been characterized as a rubber stamp for the then-ruling regime of the Kuomintang. 2020 Taiwanese Legislative Election
The 2020 Taiwanese legislative election was held on 11 January 2020 for all 113 seats to the Legislative Yuan concurrently with the 15th presidential election in Taiwan. The term of the Legislative Yuan began on 1 February 2020. The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) lost seven seats but retained a majority of 61 seats in the Legislative Yuan. The Kuomintang gained three seats, winning 38. The New Power Party won three seats, down from five in the last election. The Taiwan People's Party and Taiwan Statebuilding Party entered the Legislative Yuan with five seats and one seat, respectively, with five independent candidates winning their seats and the People First Party losing all of their seats.
