Taipei Cultural Mosque
The Taipei Cultural Mosque () is a mosque in Zhongzheng District, Taipei, Taiwan. The mosque is the third one to be built in Taiwan and it is owned by the Chinese Muslim Youth League. It also houses the Taiwan Halal Integrity Development Association. History First building Taipei Cultural Mosque was built in 1950 at Roosevelt Road by Xiao Yongtai (蕭永泰) or Akhond Hsiao from Northwest China. The mosque was initially located at Xiao's Japanese-style house. His main thought was to spread Islam through cultural movement, thus he also reestablished the Chinese Muslim Youth League. Due to the road widening scheme on Roosevelt Road, the mosque had to be relocated to its current location near the old location at Xinhai Road (辛亥路). The old mosque building had to be torn down for the road construction work. Current building The new building of Taipei Cultural Mosque was designed by architect Huang Mo-chun. The Chinese Muslim Association (CMA) is an organization of Chinese Muslims in the Republic of China (Taiwan). A rival group, the Chinese Muslim Youth League competes with it in Taiwan. Islam In Taiwan
Islam is a minor religion in Taiwan and it represents about 0.3% of the population. There are around 60,000 Muslims in Taiwan, in which about 90% belong to the Hui ethnic group. There are also more than 250,000 foreign Muslims working in Taiwan from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines, as well as other nationalities from more than 30 countries. As of 2018, there are eleven mosques in Taiwan, with the most notable being the Taipei Grand Mosque, the oldest and largest one. Taiwanese Muslims are mostly descended from Chinese Muslims in Mainland China, and are Sunni Muslims mostly belonging to the Hanafi school. A sizeable Ahmadiyya community also exists. Taipei Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), branded as Metro Taipei, is a rapid transit system serving the areas of Taipei and New Taipei City, New Taipei in Taiwan, operated by the State-owned enterprise, government-owned Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation, which also operates the Maokong Gondola. Taipei Metro was the first metro system ever built in Taiwan. The initial network was approved for construction in 1986 and work began two years later. The Taipei Metro Taipower Building station is a station on the Xindian Line located on the border in Taipei, Taiwan.
