Taboose Pass
Taboose Pass, , also known as Wide Gap, is a mountain pass in the southern Sierra Nevada, California on the border of the Inyo National Forest (John Muir Wilderness) to the east and Kings Canyon National Park to the west. The pass is reachable from the east via a long, strenuous hike from the desert floor of the Owens Valley. On the west, it connects to the Pacific Crest Trail/John Muir Trail in the National Park. Taboose Pass is one of the more difficult Eastern Sierra passes in the Sierra Nevada range, partly due to the low starting elevation of the Owens Valley Trailhead in a desert floor, at 5,500 feet. From the trailhead it is an 8-mile hike, gaining 6,000 feet over that distance to reach the pass at 11,400 feet. Inyo County () is a county in the eastern central part of the U.S. state of California, located between the Sierra Nevada and the state of Nevada. In the 2020 census, the population was 19,016. Palisades (California Sierra)
The Palisades (or the Palisade Group) are a group of peaks in the central part of the Sierra Nevada in the U.S. state of California. They are located about southwest of the town of Big Pine, California. The peaks in the group are particularly steep, rugged peaks and "contain the finest Mountaineering, alpine climbing in California." The group makes up about of the Sierra Crest, which divides the California Central Valley, Central Valley watershed from the Owens Valley, and which runs generally northwest to southeast. Vennacher Needle
Vennacher Needle is a mountain summit located in Kings Canyon National Park, in Fresno County of northern California, United States. It is situated west of the crest of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, and north of Mount Ruskin. Topographic relief is significant as the east aspect rises nearly above the Upper Basin of South Fork Kings River in one mile. The John Muir Trail, which passes one mile to the east of this mountain, provides one possible approach option. This mountain's name has been officially adopted by the United States Board on Geographic Names. Striped Mountain
Striped Mountain is a 13,179-foot-elevation (4,017 meter) mountain summit located on the crest of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in northern California. It is situated on the common border of Fresno County with Inyo County, as well as the shared boundary of John Muir Wilderness and Kings Canyon National Park. It is northwest of the community of Independence, approximately two miles south of Taboose Pass, and north of Mount Wynne. Striped Mountain ranks as the 115th highest summit in California. Mount Ruskin is a mountain summit located in Kings Canyon National Park, in Fresno County of northern California, United States. It is situated west of the crest of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, immediately east of Cartridge Pass, and south of Vennacher Needle, the nearest higher neighbor. Marion Peak
Marion Peak is a remote mountain summit located in Kings Canyon National Park, in Fresno County of northern California, United States. It is situated on Cirque Crest which is west of the crest of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, northeast of State Peak, and northwest of Arrow Peak, the nearest higher neighbor. Topographic relief is significant as the north aspect rises above Marion Lake in one mile, and the southeast aspect rises above South Fork Kings River in less than two miles.
