Table Tennis At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Women's Team
The women's team table tennis event was part of the Table tennis at the 2020 Summer Olympics, table tennis programme at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. The event took place from 1 August to 5 August 2021 at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium. Format Teams were made up of three players. Each team match was made up of five individual matches and ended when either side has won three matches. The order of a team match was changed as follows: a doubles match, two singles matches, and if neither side had won three matches by this point, a maximum of two extra singles matches were played. The new order avoids any players playing two matches in succession, and forces players who play two singles to compete in the second individual match. Qualification Schedule Seeds The women’s team Olympic qualification rankings published in July 2021 was used for seeding purposes. Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium
is a sporting complex in Sendagaya, Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. Built in 1954 for the World Wrestling Championship, it was also used as the venue for gymnastics at the 1964 Summer Olympics, and hosted the table tennis competition at the 2020 Summer Olympics. The gymnasium was rebuilt to a futuristic design created by Pritzker Prize winner Fumihiko Maki from 1986 to 1990. The gymnasium is a one-minute walk from Sendagaya Station on the Chūō-Sōbu Line and Kokuritsu Kyogijo Station on the Toei Oedo Line. Description and events The main arena includes a large indoor arena that hosts national and international sporting events. The arena holds 10,000 people (6,000 fixed, 4,000 temporary). Han Ying
Han Ying (born 29 April 1983 as ) is a female table tennis player representing Germany since 2010. A specialist in defensive chopping, a style in decline ever since the mid-1990s, she is one of a few surviving defensive players active at the ITTF World Tour level as of 2021. Her most important achievement are the Olympic silver medal in women's team in 2016 and the fourth place in the same event in 2020. Other major awards include the second place in the 2016 World Tour Grand Finals and the fourth place in the 2020 Women's World Cup. Bernadette Cynthia Szőcs ( hu, Szőcs Bernadette Cynthia; born 5 March 1995) is a professional table tennis player from Romania who is currently at a career World Table Tennis (ITTF) high ranking of No. 11. Career In September 2011, she travelled to Argentina for the World Junior Circuit event where she overtook Kasumi Ishikawa to reach the top spot in the competition series. Shin Yu-bin (; born 5 July 2004) is a South Korean table tennis player. Career 2019 She competed in the 2019 ITTF World Tour Grand Finals in the mixed doubles event with Cho Dae-seong. They were knocked out in the quarterfinals by Xu Xin and Liu Shiwen, 0–3. She also participated in the 2019 Asian Table Tennis Championships in both the women's singles and the mixed doubles, winning against the much higher ranked Cheng I-ching in the round of 32, 3–2, but lost to Feng Tianwei in the round of 16, 0–3 in the women's singles. Choi Hyo-joo (, born 4 April 1998) is a Chinese-born South Korean table tennis player. Born in China as Yao Yao (), she became a naturalized South Korean citizen in November 2013. Lin Ye (, born 1 February 1996) is a Chinese-born Singaporean table tennis player. Born in China, Lin started playing table tennis at the age of 8. She later moved to Singapore where she obtained citizenship in 2013 via the Foreign Sports Talent Scheme. Lin was named the Young Player of the Year in 2013 and 2014. Yu Mengyu
Yu Mengyu (; born 18 August 1989) is a retired Chinese-born Singaporean table tennis player. Born in Liaoning, China, Yu left China in 2006 at the age of 17 to join the Singapore Table Tennis Association (STTA). She was part of the team that won the 2010 World Team Table Tennis Championships in Moscow, Russia. She represented Singapore in the 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics (Team & Singles). Feng Tianwei (, ) is a Singaporean table tennis player. Born in Harbin, China, she permanently moved to Singapore at the age of 20 under the former Foreign Sports Talent Scheme in March 2007 and commenced her international career in competitive table tennis the following month. Feng represented Singapore for the first time in the Olympic Games at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. On 15 August 2008, the Singapore team comprising Feng and her teammates Li Jiawei and Wang Yuegu defeated South Korea 3–2 in the semifinals.
