Para Table Tennis
Para table tennis is a parasports which follows the rules set by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). The usual table tennis rules are in effect with slight modifications for wheelchair athletes. Athletes from disability groups can take part. Athletes receive classifications between 1-11. Classes 1-5 are for those in wheelchairs and classes 6-10 for those who have disabilities that allow them to play standing. Within those groups, the higher classification means the more function the athlete has. Class 11 is defined for players with an intellectual disability. Classification The roles of classification are to determine eligibility to compete for athletes with disability and to group athletes equitably for competition purposes. 2015 ASEAN Para Games
The 2015 ASEAN Para Games, officially known as the 8th ASEAN Para Games, and commonly known as Singapore 2015, was a Southeast Asian Disabled sports, disabled multi-sport event held from 3 to 9 December 2015 in the city-state of Singapore. Unlike the previous editions the games were held six months after the closing of the 2015 Southeast Asian Games. This was Singapore's first time as host of the ASEAN Para Games. Around 1811 athletes participated at the Games, which featured 336 events in 15 sports. Singapore is the seventh nation to host the event after Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia and Myanmar. It was opened by Tony Tan Keng Yam, the President of Singapore at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. The final medal tally was led by Thailand, followed by Indonesia and Malaysia with host Singapore in fifth place. Chee Weng Fai Jason (; born 26 January 1983), also known as Jason Chee, is a Singaporean para table tennis player who had won gold medals at multiple editions of the ASEAN Para Games. Early life and education Chee was born in 1983 in Singapore to parents, Chee Kwok Chor and Chua Ah Lek His father, Chee, of Shanghainese descent, worked as a vegetable seller until his retirement in 2011. His mother, Chua, was a seamstress who died in 2011 due to kidney failure at the age of 65. Chee studied at Westlake Primary School, Guangyang Secondary School and then Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Dian David Mickael Jacobs (21 June 1977 – 28 April 2023) was an Indonesian athlete who competed in table tennis, primarily Class 10 para table tennis. Born in Ujung Pandang, he took up table tennis at the age of ten and rose quickly through national tournaments. He was training to play internationally by 2000, and in 2001 he won his first gold medal, at the SEATTA Games in Singapore. After 2010 he competed in para table tennis, having spent most of his career competing against athletes with full functionality. Josephine Rebeta Medina (March 20, 1970 – September 2, 2021) was a Filipino table tennis player. Medina represented the Philippines at the 2012 and 2016 Summer Paralympics. Early career Medina was influenced to take up table tennis as a sport by her father who used to compete for the Philippines internationally. She was afflicted with poliomyelitis which affected the length of her legs. She competed with able-bodied players as a varsity player during her collegiate studies in order to cope with her family's financial problems. She managed to qualify for a place at the national table tennis team but was later told she could not compete due to her disabilities.
