Alf Tabb
Alf Tabb (March 1883 − 1976) was a bicycle shop owner and trick cyclist from Kidderminster, Worcestershire. He is most known for building and riding miniature bicycles. Biography Tabb was born in London in March 1883, where his father owned a cycle manufacturing company. His first job was as newspaper cyclist in London at the age of 13. In 1921, he married and moved to Kidderminster, where he set up a cycle workshop business in the Stourbridge Road area of town. He ran the shop for 17 years. He retired when he was 75 years old. Trick cyclist In 1938, Tabb built a bicycle as his father used to do, to hang outside his shop as an advertising gimmick. Curious as to whether he could ride the bicycle, he tried and found that he could, with a little practice. He was then encouraged to perform his act at the local gliderdrome. Jerry Lynn Tabb (born March 17, 1952) is an American former professional baseball first baseman. He played all or part of three seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1976 until 1978, for the Chicago Cubs and Oakland Athletics. Amateur career Tabb was a baseball standout at the University of Tulsa, where, as a freshman, he won the College World Series Most Outstanding Player award in the 1971 College World Series, where Tulsa was the next-to-last team eliminated. He was also the first baseman for Team USA at the 1971 Pan American Games. Professional career The Cubs made Tabb a first-round pick, selected 16th overall, in the 1973 Major League Baseball Draft. William Barksdale Tabb
William Barksdale Tabb (September 11, 1840 – December 4, 1874) was an American lawyer and military officer in the Confederate States Army. Biography Tabb graduated from both Virginia Military Institute (VMI) and the University of Virginia, and thereafter practiced law. During the Civil War, Tabb first served as a captain on the staff of General Henry A. Wise. On November 1, 1862, Tabb was promoted to colonel of the 59th Virginia Infantry. He was the commander of his regiment and is mainly known for being in the Battle of Sayler's Creek in which the Confederate States sustained over 7,000 casualties. On May 9, 1873, Tabb served as a second in a duel in Richmond, Virginia, involving pistols, during which both principals—John B. Mordecai and W. Page McCarthy—were injured. The two principals and four seconds, one being Tabb, were subsequently arrested. Wendell Tabb (born August 19, 1962) is an American educator, theater director, producer, actor, politician, and graduate of North Carolina Central University. He is most known for being the theater teacher and director at the award-winning Hillside High School in Durham, North Carolina for over 30 years. He is the former Chair of the visual and performing arts program at Hillside. He is also the artistic director for the Triangle Performance Ensemble, a community theatre company based in Durham, North Carolina where he is the producer and director of Durham's Black Nativity, an annual theatrical production based on the work Black Nativity written by Langston Hughes. Michaela Tabb (born 11 December 1967, in Bath, Somerset, England) is a Scottish snooker and pool referee. She established significant milestones for female officials in professional cue sports, beginning in pool, where she officiated at top tournaments such as the WPA World Nine-ball Championship and the Mosconi Cup. She qualified in 2001 to referee on the World Snooker Tour and went on to become the sport's highest profile female referee, officiating on tour for 14 years. She became the first woman to officiate at a professional ranking snooker tournament at the 2002 Welsh Open, and the first woman to referee a ranking tournament final at the 2007 Welsh Open. Mary Teresa Slaney (formerly Tabb, née Decker, born August 4, 1958) is a retired American middle-distance runner. During her career, she won gold medals in the 1500 meters and 3000 meters at the 1983 World Championships, and was the world record holder in the mile, 5000 meters and 10,000 meters. In total, she set 17 official and unofficial world records, including being the first woman in history to break 4:20 for the mile. Jay Anthony Tabb (born 21 February 1984) is a retired professional footballer. He began his career at Crystal Palace but was released as a junior and joined Brentford in 2000. He moved to Crawley Town in 2003 on a loan which was ultimately cut short by injury. He played in both of Brentford's unsuccessful play-off campaigns in 2005 and 2006, making over 150 appearances for the club in total. Barrington Tabb (1934 – 9 December 2022) was an English painter. He was a Royal West of England Academy (RWA) member. Tabb was born in Almondsbury in Gloucestershire, England, and lived his whole life in and around Bristol. Tabb was entirely self-taught after a short time at art school.
