TV Vlaanderen Digitaal
TV Vlaanderen is a digital satellite television and terrestrial television service provider for the Flanders region in Belgium. TV Vlaanderen's customers are mostly people living in Flanders. However, as TV Vlaanderen is officially available to the whole of Belgium, TV Vlaanderen also has many Flemish customers living in the French-speaking part of Belgium due to the unavailability of Dutch-language TV channels on cable television platforms in Wallonia. Like the Dutch satellite television provider CanalDigitaal, TV Vlaanderen is owned by M7 Group (Canal+ Luxembourg S.a.r.l). M7 Group since September 2019 is part of French-based Groupe Canal+, which is a subsidiary of Vivendi. CanalDigitaal
CanalDigitaal is a provider of digital television via satellite for the Dutch market, using the Astra satellites at 23.5° east. Initially customers were mainly Dutch citizens in the countryside who did not have cable access. But in the meantime the company also managed to expand into the cities. This is sometimes complicated in the Netherlands due to local building codes restricting the placement of satellite dishes. The company now also actively markets its products to countries outside the Netherlands and it is no longer necessary to have a Dutch address or bank account to take out a subscription. CanalDigitaal is owned by the Luxembourg M7 Group (Canal+ Luxembourg s.a.r.l.), also owner of the Belgian TV Vlaanderen Digitaal and TéléSAT Numérique, the Austrian HD Austria, the Czech/ Slovak Skylink. MediaGuard is a conditional access system for digital television developed by SECA (Société Européenne de Contrôle d'Accès; renamed to Canal+ Technologies SA) (CEO François Carayol), a subsidiary of Canal+ Group, sold to Thomson (CEO Thierry Breton). Then Canal+ Technologies SA was broken in two pieces by Thomson in 2003, the MediaGuard sold to Nagra France and the MediaHighway to NDS France. MediaGuard has been on the European market since 1996. Norkring AS is a provider of digital terrestrial television and radio transmitting in Norway and Belgium. SES Astra
SES Astra SA was a corporate subsidiary of SES, based in Betzdorf, in eastern Luxembourg, that maintained and operated the Astra series of geostationary communication satellites between 2001 and 2011. Formed in 1985 as Société Européenne des Satellites (SES), it was Europe's first private satellite operator. In November 2001, upon the purchase of GE Americom from General Electric (renamed to SES Americom), SES Global was formed as the parent company to SES Americom and SES Astra.
