TVTV (TV Series)
''TVTV'' was an Australian television series that reported and commented on television. It was broadcast by the ABC from 1993 to 1994. Originally launched in March 1993 it was hosted by Simon Townsend with a panel of reviewers composed of Sueyan Cox, James Valentine, John Hanrahan, Julia Gardiner and Edith Bliss. Townsend stepped down as host in June. James Valentine became the host and was joined as cohost by Caroline Baum. In 94 the show stopped for a period and production moved from Sydney to Melbourne. The show was revamped with Mark Mitchell and Tiffany Lamb as hosts, returning to air in August. The Age's Ross Warneke, commenting on early episodes, called it a turkey writing "Its giggly, monosyllabic approach to TV news and reviews is down-market and intellectually offensive." Simon Townsend
Simon Townsend (born 27 November 1945) is an Australian journalist who became a popular television host during the 1980s. He is now retired. Vietnam War conscientious objector In the mid-1960s whilst living in Woy Woy and working as a columnist for a community paper he became a conscientious objector against the Vietnam War. He gained national prominence on his anti-conscription stance, he said, "I suddenly decided to be a . . . objector to the Vietnam War. I then went to Sydney, I met people, I joined the groups and I read. And suddenly I had an intellectual basis for my objection to the Vietnam War. And that was when I got very busy, objecting, going to court and I ended up in Long Bay Gaol for a month. And in 1968 I ended up in the army prison for a month. James Valentine (journalist)
James Matthew Valentine (born 1961) is an Australian musician, and radio and television presenter. As a saxophonist he was a member of Jo Jo Zep (1982), Models (1984–87) and Absent Friends (1989–90). Biography James Matthew Valentine was born in 1961 in Ballarat. His father was a car salesman and his mother taught elocution and was a part-time radio announcer. He has two older brothers. He attended Ballarat Grammar School where he learned saxophone, he described his performances in the local area, "a really bad jazz rock fusion gig." In the early 1980s Valentine relocated to Melbourne to attend university, he later recalled "First year I spent studying, and then I started getting gigs, and I didn't pay much attention to uni after that because I wanted to be a jazz musician." Edith Bliss
Edith Bliss (28 September 1959 – 3 May 2012) was an Australian singer and television presenter.Atterton, Margot. (Ed.) Biography She was born Eda Bliss in Brisbane and studied at the University of Queensland, she briefly worked as a kindergarten teacher before moving to Sydney in 1979. There she initially worked as manager of an upmarket shoe store in Bondi. In 1979, she reportedly accompanied a friend to provide moral support at a singing audition, and she was asked to also audition. She did, and won a contract with ATV Northern Publishing. Under the supervision of Chris Gilbey she began recording. Later that year she released her debut single, "If It's Love You Want", on the Grundy Organisation "GO" label, which peaked at #24 on the Australian chart. Mark Mitchell (actor)
Mark Mitchell (born 29 September 1954) is an Australian actor, comedian and contemporary artist, best known for his character Con the Fruiterer. Early life Mark Mitchell was born in Melbourne. He studied English and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Melbourne and then completed a Diploma of Education at State College of Victoria Rusden Campus (now part of Deakin University). He taught secondary school (Ararat high school) English for five years before becoming an advertising copy-writer and then a professional actor. Career Mitchell starred in the pioneering sketch comedy show ''The Eleventh Hour'', a predecessor to his hit sketch show ''The Comedy Company''.
