TV3 (Hungary)
TV3 was a commercial television channel broadcast in Hungary. History The beginnings (1994–1997) ''Budapesti Kommunikációs Rt.'', which operated TV3, was founded in 1993, by the Municipality of Budapest at the time of the "media war" in the early 1990s, at the initiative of the assembly of the parties SZDSZ (Alliance of Free Democrats) and Fidesz (Hungarian Civic Alliance). The first experimental release took place in December 1993. Following the elections in 1994, the former opposition lost its interest in the channel, but the company's executives ''György Iványi'' (President), ''András Feuer'' (Chief Communications Officer, editor of the channel and their associates, later joined ''Andrew Sarlós'' (Canadian businessman)) raised their capital and prepared for regular broadcasting. 576i is a standard-definition television, standard-definition digital video mode, originally used for digitizing analog television in most countries of the world where the utility frequency for electric power distribution is 50 Hz. Because of its close association with the legacy color encoding systems, it is often referred to as PAL, PAL/SECAM or SECAM when compared to its 60 Hz (typically, see PAL-M) NTSC-colour-encoded counterpart, 480i. TV2 (TV Kettő) is a Hungary, Hungarian free-to-air television channel operating since 4 October 1997, providing a large variety of programming. It is rivaling with RTL (Hungarian TV channel), RTL for the first place in Hungarian television ratings. Among its most popular self-produced shows were Megasztár ("Mega Star", an adaptation of Pop Idol), and the daily prime time soap opera, soap Jóban Rosszban, and US shows like Desperate Housewives, NCIS (TV series), NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Numb3rs, Heroes (U.S. TV series), Heroes, Smallville (TV series), Smallville, House (TV series), House M.D., Ghost Whisperer and Lipstick Jungle (TV series), Lipstick Jungle. FEM3 is a television channel operated by the TV2 Group that broadcasts in Hungary. It is an entertainment channel, primarily dedicated to talk shows, reality series involving lifestyles, and family life. It was originally launched on New Year's Day 2010. RTL (formerly: RTL Klub) is a Hungarian free-to-air television channel owned by RTL Group. The channel began broadcasting three days after its main rival TV2, one of Hungary's first commercial TV channels. History Since its start, RTL Klub has focused to gain viewers from the urban population. The channel airs programs mostly for a younger (18-49) audience. RTL Klub rebranded again in early September 1999. The idents consists of two elements (fire and water), with the eye motif being introduced for the first time. Nap-kelte (Sunrise) was a long-running Hungarian daily morning programme, and the flagship programme of its producer, Nap TV, a privately owned producer of television programmes from Hungary. It was continuously broadcast on-air for 20 years, from 1989 to 2009, most famously, on M1, the then-flagship channel of public broadcaster Magyar Televízió, except for a period of time between 1999 and 2002, when its programmes were broadcast by the privately owned TV3; after such station went bankrupt, the show moved to ATV, before returning to M1 on 2002, where it stayed until its final broadcast. Standard-definition television (SDTV, SD, often shortened to standard definition) is a television system which uses a resolution that is not considered to be either high or enhanced definition. "Standard" refers to it being the prevailing specification for broadcast (and later, cable) television in the mid- to late-20th century, and compatible with legacy analog broadcast systems. The two common SDTV signal types are 576i, with 576 interlaced lines of resolution, derived from the European-developed PAL and SECAM systems, and 480i based on the American NTSC system. Common SDTV refresh rates are 25, 29.97 and 30 frames per second. Both systems use a 4:3 aspect ratio. Standards that support digital SDTV broadcast include DVB, ATSC, and ISDB.
