TRNC Coast Guard Command
The TRNC Coast Guard Command (''Turkish: KKTC Sahil Güvenlik Komutanlığı'') is responsible for defending the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus against any attack from the sea. This force was established in 1976. It is affiliated with the Security Forces Command. It is an armed law enforcement agency serving in the coastal areas of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. It is the only element of the Security Forces Command at sea. Turkish Resistance Organisation
The Turkish Resistance Organisation ( tr, Türk Mukavemet Teşkilatı, TMT) was a Turkish Cypriot pro- taksim paramilitary organisation formed by Rauf Denktaş and Turkish military officer Rıza Vuruşkan in 1958 as an organisation to counter the Greek Cypriot Fighter's Organization EOKA (later "EOKA-B"). The name of the organization was changed twice. In 1967 to "Mücahit", and became the Security Forces Command in 1976. Formation The Greek Cypriot paramilitary organization, EOKA started its anti-British activities for Enosis, the union of the island with Greece. This caused a "Cretan syndrome" within the Turkish Cypriot community, as its members feared that they would be forced to leave the island in such a case as was the case with Cretan Turks; as such, they preferred the continuation of the British rule and later, taksim, the division of the island. Security Forces Command
The Security Forces Command ( tr, Güvenlik Kuvvetleri Komutanlığı) is the military and security force of the unrecognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. It is a 15,000 strong force primarily made up of conscripted Turkish Cypriot males between the ages of 18 and 40. It is a combined arms force, with land, air and naval elements. This force is supplemented by the 17,500–30,000 strong Turkish Military Forces in Northern Cyprus stationed on the island. Turkish Armed Forces In Northern Cyprus
The Cyprus Turkish Peace Force Command ( tr, Kıbrıs Türk Barış Kuvvetleri Komutanlığı) is the Turkish garrison in Cyprus. In 1974 Turkish troops invaded Cyprus following a Greek Cypriot coup d'état (organized and supported by the Greek government, which was still in the hands of a military junta) which wanted to force union with Greece, occupying the northern third of the island. The invasion force, which consisted of about 40,000 soldiers and 200 tanks. The Directorate General for Police (DGP) ( tr, Polis Genel Müdürlüğü) is the police organization of Northern Cyprus. It is part of the Security Forces Command. History The roots of DGP goes back to Ottoman Police (1571). Two years after the transfer of administration of Cyprus to the United Kingdom in 1878, the Cyprus Military Police was founded. In 1936, the word "Military" was removed from the name and it became "Cyprus Police", which lasted until 1960. Following the independence of the Republic of Cyprus from the United Kingdom in 1960, organisation of policing was separated between the Cyprus Police and the Gendarme. In 1960, the Cyprus Police numbered 1019, with 604 Greek Cypriot and 415 Turkish Cypriot officers. TRNC Special Task Force Command
Special Task Force Command (Turkish: ''Özel Görev Kuvveti Komutanlığı — ÖGKK'') is special force unit within the Security Forces Command of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Unit consisting of officers of different classes and ranks, non-commissioned officers, special officers and elite soldiers who have been selected and trained in all kinds of terrain and climatic conditions against the elimination of internal and external threats.
