The Country Club at Wakefield Plantation is a private golf club (institution), golf club located within the planned community of Wakefield Plantation in Raleigh, North Carolina. Formerly named TPC Wakefield Plantation as a member of the Tournament Players Club network operated by the PGA Tour, it was purchased by McConnell Golf in 2011. The Hale Irwin designed championship golf course, built adjacent to Falls Lake, opened in 2000. It is accompanied by a par 33, 9-hole course. The Country Club at Wakefield Plantation is the home of the Rex Hospital Open, formerly the SAS Carolina Classic, a tournament on the second tier Web.com Tour. Hale S. Irwin (born June 3, 1945) is an American professional golfer. He was one of the world's leading golfers from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s. He is one of the few players in history to win three U.S. Opens, becoming the oldest ever U.S. Open champion in 1990 at the age of 45. Tournament Players Club (TPC) is a chain of public and private golf courses operated by the PGA Tour. Most of the courses either are or have been hosts for PGA Tour events, with the remainder having frequently hosted events on the Korn Ferry Tour or PGA Tour Champions. In 2020, Harding Park became the first TPC course to host a major when it hosted the PGA Championship. A golf course is the grounds on which the sport of golf is played. It consists of a series of holes, each consisting of a tee box, a fairway, the rough and other hazards, and a green with a cylindrical hole in the ground, known as a "cup". Falls Lake
Falls Lake is a 12,410 acre (50 km²) reservoir located in Durham, Wake, and Granville counties in North Carolina, United States. Falls Lake extends up the Neuse River to its source at the confluence of the Eno, Little, and Flat rivers. The lake is named for the ''Falls of the Neuse'', a once whitewater section of the river that fell from the Piedmont into the lower Coastal Plain submerged during construction of the lake.
