TPC (album)
''TPC'' is a studio album by Canadian indie rock group Tokyo Police Club, released by Dine Alone Records on October 5, 2018. The album reunites the band with their early, spontaneous style as well as with ''Champ (album), Champ'' producer Rob Schnapf. The album was well-received by fans and critics and was nominated for the 2019 Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year. Two companion records were released in 2020: a self-released collection of demos as well as the Dine Alone-released EP ''TPC DLX''. Production Following the A Lesson in Crime 10th Anniversary Tour and release of ''Melon Collie and the Infinite Radness: Part One, Melon Collie and the Infinite Radness'' in 2016, the band found themselves at a creative crossroad, furthered by the fact that the band members lived in Canada, New York City, and Los Angeles. Tokyo Police Club
Tokyo Police Club is an indie rock band from Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. Founded in 2005, it consists of vocalist and bassist Dave Monks, keyboardist Graham Wright, guitarist Josh Hook, and drummer Greg Alsop. The band found early success with their 2006 debut EP '' A Lesson in Crime,'' which they followed with several popular releases including the albums ''Elephant Shell'' and '' Champ'' in 2008 and 2010, respectively. During the 2010s, they released three other studio albums. Indie rock is a Music subgenre, subgenre of rock music that originated in the United States, United Kingdom and New Zealand from the 1970s to the 1980s. Originally used to describe independent record labels, the term became associated with the music they produced and was initially used interchangeably with alternative rock or "Pop rock, guitar pop rock". Dine Alone Records
Dine Alone Records is a Canadian and American independent record label, founded in St. Catharines and Toronto by Joel Carriere. The label is now based in Toronto, Nashville and Los Angeles. History Dine Alone was born out of founder Joel Carriere's home in St. Catharines, Ontario. After years working various positions in the Canadian music industry and building his own cultural website and promotional company, Carriere launched Dine Alone Records in 2005. With a name drawn from the songs "Dine Alone" by the post-hardcore band Quicksand, and a set of founders who had ties to the North American heavy music scene, Dine Alone worked with artists such as The Fullblast, Johnny Truant, City and Colour and Attack in Black. Rob Schnapf
Rob Schnapf is an American record producer and musician. He was the co-producer (along with Tom Rothrock) of Elliott Smith's albums ''Either/Or'', '' XO'' (on which he also played guitar on the song " Baby Britain"), '' Figure 8'' and ''From a Basement on the Hill'', for which he was recruited by Smith's family to complete after Smith's death. Schnapf runs the Mant Sounds studio. Background Schnapf, along with Rothrock and partner Bradshaw Lambert, started Bong Load Custom Records in the early 1990s which is notable for releasing Beck's " Loser" single. Schnapf first heard Beck as he was playing on the street during the annual Sunset Junction Fair. A week later Rothrock saw Beck jump onstage to play in between bands during a show at Jabberjaw and approached him afterwards about recording his songs. ''Champ'' is an LP by Tokyo Police Club that was released on June 8, 2010. ''Champ'' is the band's second studio album, after the release of ''Elephant Shell'' in 2008. Tokyo Police Club released the album's first single, "Breakneck Speed" for free download on their website on March 26, 2010. The next singles released off the album were "Wait Up (Boots of Danger)" followed by "Gone". Reception As with their debut EP, '' A Lesson In Crime'', ''Champ'' was met with a mixed to positive press response, being lauded for their upbeat consistency from one album to the next. ''Slant Magazine'' gave it 3/5 stars, calling the band "smart guys with ambitions to be more than another forgotten blog band". The Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year is presented annually at Canada's Juno Awards to honour the best album of the year in the alternative rock and/or indie rock genres. The award was first presented in 1995 under the name Best Alternative Album, and adopted its current name in 2003. ''Part One'' is the second album by the American psychedelic rock group The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, and was released in February 1967 on Reprise Records. It features compositions by Bob Johnston, Frank Zappa, Baker Knight, P.F. Sloan and Van Dyke Parks with input from studio drummer Hal Blaine. Born Ruffians are a Canadian indie rock band based in Toronto. Officially founded in 2004 in the Georgian Bay town of Midland, Ontario, the band is composed of frontman Luke Lalonde, bassist Mitch DeRosier, and drummer Steve Hamelin. The term implies that blogs exist together as a connected community (or as a collection of connected communities) or as a social networking service in which everyday authors can publish their opinions. The Juno Awards of 2019, honouring Canadian music achievements, were presented in London, Ontario during the weekend of 16–17 March 2019.
