Târgu Secuiesc
Târgu Secuiesc (; hu, Kézdivásárhely, ; german: Szekler Neumarkt; la, Neoforum Siculorum) is a municipiu, city in Covasna County, Transylvania, Romania. It administers one village, Lunga (''Nyujtód''). History The town was first mentioned in 1407 as ''Torjawasara'', meaning in Hungarian “Torja Market”. (Turia (Cașin), Torja is the name of a stream nearby and is also the Hungarian name of the nearby village Turia, Covasna, Turia.) Originally, the Hungarian name Kézdivásárhely was also used in Romanian in the form Chezdi-Oșorheiu, but this was altered to Tîrgu Secuiesc (now spelled Târgu Secuiesc) after the accession to Romania in 1920 under the Treaty of Trianon. Székely Freedom Day
The Székely Freedom Day ( hu, Székely Szabadság Napja; ro, Ziua Libertății Secuilor) is a day celebrated by the Székely Hungarian minority of Romania. It is celebrated every 10 March in Târgu Mureș, but also in other parts of Székely Land and internationally. The holiday was created according to a decision of the Szekler National Council on 6 January 2012. The same council said that this day (10 March) was chosen to commemorate the execution of Mihály Gálffy, Károly Horváth and János Török in 1854 at Târgu Mureș. They were Székely revolutionaries who, after the defeat in 1848, reorganized in Bucharest but were later caught and executed by the Austrian Empire's authorities. There have been complaints as, on this day, there are often protests for the autonomy of the Székelys, which have caused conflicts between the protesters and the Romanian authorities. Gábor Vajna
Gábor Vajna (4 November 1891 – 12 March 1946) was a Hungarian politician, who served as Minister of the Interior from 1944 to 1945. Early life Vajna was born into a Transylvanian Calvinist family in Kézdivásárhely (today Târgu Secuiesc, Romania), then part of the Kingdom of Hungary on 4 November 1891. He participated in World War I as an officer in the 29th Feldjäger Battalion of the Austro-Hungarian Army and received many honors during his forty-three months of military service. Following the war, Vajna took service in the Hungarian Embassy at Vienna, and later worked for the Ministry of Defence. He retired from the Royal Hungarian Army as a Major in 1924. After that he was appointed director of the gunpowder factory in Balatonfűzfő. When his far-right sympathy was revealed, Vajna was dismissed from that position. Ioan Robu
Ioan Robu (born November 6, 1944) is a Romanian prelate of the Roman Catholic Church. He was Archbishop of Bucharest from 1990 to 2019. Biography Robu was born in Târgu Secuiesc, where his father, a native of Traian, Neamț County, had briefly come to work. A graduate of the Roman Catholic Theological Institute of Iași, he was ordained to the priesthood on 15 August 1968. He then served at the Roman Catholic parish in Craiova and at Saint Joseph's Cathedral in Bucharest. He studied at the Pontifical Lateran University's Alphonsian Academy from 1973 to 1977, earning a Doctor of Sacred Theology degree. During the summer of 1977, he was a parish priest in Buzău, and from 1977 to 1983 he was director of his alma mater in Iaşi. Roland Csaba Niczuly (born 21 September 1995) is a Romanian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Liga I club Sepsi OSK, a club on which he serves as captain. Béla Markó (born September 8, 1951 in Târgu Secuiesc, Covasna County, Socialist Republic of Romania) is a Romanian politician and writer of Hungarian ethnicity. The former leader of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR), he was also the Deputy Premier in the Emil Boc government (which came to power on December 23, 2009); he had also been Minister of State in the Tăriceanu cabinet between 2004 and 2007, in charge of culture, education and research and European integration. Gergely Kovács (born July 21, 1968, Târgu Secuiesc, Romania) is the current archbishop of the Archdiocese of Alba Iulia. Biography Gergely Kovács was born on July 21, 1968 in Târgu Secuiesc. Kovács studied at the Roman Catholic Theological Institute in Alba Iulia from 1987 until 1990. After the Romanian Revolution of 1989 his bishop sent him to study in Rome. Already in Rome, he stayed at the Pontifical German-Hungarian College (1990–1996), remaining at the Pontifical Gregorian University until 1992. He was ordained a priest in the Archdiocese of Alba Iulia on July 3, 1993, by Archbishop Lajos Bálint. Kató Havas (5 November 1920 – 31 December 2018) was a Hungarian classical violinist and a teacher of both the violin and viola who developed the "New Approach to violin playing" to help prevent physical injuries and eliminate stage fright related to playing the violin or viola. Tiberiu Ghioane (born 18 June 1981) is a Romanian former professional footballer. He played most of his career for Dynamo Kyiv as a defensive midfielder before retiring from football in July 2011.
