Turkish women have an active participation in many sports branches and have several important trophies, especially in athletics, weightlifting, combat sports, volleyball and basketball. Nevin Yanıt
Nevin Yanıt (born February 16, 1986) is a Turkish former sprinter specializing in high hurdling. On 29 August 2013, Yanit was banned from athletic competition for two years following a failed doping test in February 2013. After IAAF appealed the length of the ban to the Court of Arbitration for sport, her ban was extended for a further year. Biography Yanıt won the 100m hurdles at the 2007 European Under 23 Athletics Championships. She won the silver medal at the 2007 Summer Universiade in Bangkok, Thailand. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, she reached the semi-finals in the 100m hurdles. Yanıt participated at the 2009 Mediterranean Games in Pescara, Italy and won the gold medal in women's 100 m hurdles. Turkey competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, from 13 to 29 August 2004. Turkish athletes have competed at every Summer Olympic Games since its debut in 1908. Turkey did not attend the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp, the 1932 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles at the period of worldwide Great Depression, and the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow because of its support for the United States boycott. The Turkish Olympic Committee ( tr, Türkiye Milli Olimpiyat Komitesi, ''TMOK'') sent the nation's largest delegation to the Games. A total of 65 athletes, 45 men and 20 women, competed in 10 sports. There was only a single competitor in shooting and taekwondo. Merve Çoban (born 25 January 1993) is a Turkish karateka. She won the bronze medal in the 61 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. She is also a gold medalist and a two-time silver medalist in the women's kumite 61 kg event at the European Karate Championships. Yasemin Adar (born 6 December 1991) is a Turkish freestyle wrestler competing in the 76 kg division. 2 times world (2017,2022) and 6 times European (2016,2017,2018,2019,2022,2023) champions. She also won one of the bronze medals in the women's 76 kg event at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
