Turkish Military Operation In Idlib Governorate
The Turkish military operation in Idlib Governorate (), code-named Idlib De-escalation Control Force activities () by Turkey, was an operation by the Turkish Armed Forces which started in October 2017, following the earlier Operation Euphrates Shield. It was the third cross-border operation by the Turkish military, following Operation Euphrates Shield and Operation Shah Euphrates. Background The operation was launched following the 2017 Astana agreement and subsequent Sochi agreement between Turkey, Russia and Iran. Among other things, the two agreements contained provisions for the Turkish Armed Forces to set up and maintain 12 observation posts within resistance-held territories in the Idlib Governorate. Hakkari Mountain And Commando Brigade
The 5th Commando Brigade, more commonly known as the Hakkari Mountain and Commando Brigade ( Turkish: ''Hakkâri Dağ ve Komando Tugayı''), stationed in Hakkâri Province in southeastern Turkey, founded as a battalion of the 1st Commando Brigade. Because of the ongoing Kurdish-Turkish conflict, the formation enlarged from the size of a battalion to a brigade. Operation Shah Euphrates
Operation Shah Euphrates () was an operation by the Turkish military to relocate the tomb of Suleyman Shah in Syria conducted on 21/22 February 2015. The tomb, which was positioned inside Turkey's only foreign enclave, had been surrounded by self-proclaimed Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) forces for over 4 months. Due to the presence of ISIS, the exclaves garrison was recently raised from eleven Turkish soldiers to thirty eight. Operation On the night of 21–22 February 2015, a Turkish military convoy including 600 Turkish troops, tanks and other armored vehicles numbering about 100 entered Syria to evacuate the tomb's 38 guards and relocate the remains. Operation Euphrates Shield
Operation Euphrates Shield () was an offensive by the Turkish Armed Forces and the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army, which led to the Turkish occupation of northern Syria. Operations were carried out in the region between the Euphrates river to the east and the rebel-held area around Azaz to the west. The Turkish military and Turkey-aligned Syrian rebel groups, some of which used the Free Syrian Army label, fought against the forces of the Islamic State (IS) as well as against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) from 24 August 2016. 2020 Balyun Airstrikes
On 27 February 2020, during the Dawn of Idlib 2 Operation, a joint airstrike was executed by the Russian and Syrian Air Forces against a convoy of the Turkish Army stationed in Balyun, within the Idlib Governorate. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan reported that the assault resulted in the loss of 34 Turkish soldiers. However, alternative sources close to Turkey, suggested a significantly higher death toll, ranging from 50 to 70 casualties, marking it as the most lethal attack on Turkish forces since their engagement in the Syrian Civil War commenced. The assault also inflicted injuries on an estimated 36 to 60 soldiers, with 16 of them reported to be in a critical state. Katibat al-Tawhid wal-Jihad (, , ) is an Uzbek/Kyrgyz jihadist militant organization based in Syria. History The group was established in Syria in 2014 by Sirojiddin Mukhtarov, and consists of mostly Uzbek and Kyrgyz nationals. In 2015 the group, with the help of Al-Nusra Front and Ajnad al-Kavkaz, attempted to establish a de facto state in northwestern Syria. This was all after the fighting in Idlib province, specifically in the town of Jisr ash-Shughur. In 2016 the group bombed the Chinese embassy in Kyrgyzstan, under Mukhtarov's orders.
