Turki bin Bandar Al Saud is a Saudi royal who has been the commander of Saudi Air Force since February 2018. Early life and education Prince Turki is a son of Bandar bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. One of his brothers is Prince Khalid. Prince Turki received a bachelor's degree in aerial science. Career He held several position in Saudi Air Force, including operations center director, zone commander, flight officer and the commander of King Abdulaziz Air Base in Dhahran and in the Eastern Province. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant general and named the commander of Saudi Air Force in February 2018. The Royal Saudi Air Force ( ar, الْقُوَّاتُ الْجَوِّيَّةُ الْمَلَكِيَّةْ ٱلسُّعُوْدِيَّة, Al-Quwwat Al-Jawiyah Al-Malakiyah as-Su’udiyah) (RSAF) is the aviation branch of the Saudi Arabian Armed Forces. The Royal Saudi Air Force currently has approximately 1,106 aircraft, 40,000 active personnel, 23,000 recruits, 9 wings, +99 squadrons, and a Special Forces unit dedicated to combat search and rescue. The RSAF has developed from a largely defensive military force into one with an advanced offensive capability, and maintains the third largest fleet of F-15s after the U.S. and Japanese air forces. Background The Saudi Arabian version of the Kuwait Liberation Medal is awarded to members of the Coalition Forces who participated in Operation Desert Storm and the liberation of Kuwait between the dates of January 17, 1991 and February 28, 1991. Lieutenant general (Lt Gen, LTG and similar) is a three-star military rank (NATO code OF-8) used in many countries. The rank traces its origins to the Middle Ages, where the title of lieutenant general was held by the second-in-command on the battlefield, who was normally subordinate to a captain general. In modern armies, lieutenant general normally ranks immediately below general and above major general; it is equivalent to the navy rank of vice admiral, and in air forces with a separate rank structure, it is equivalent to air marshal. King Abdulaziz Air Base () , also known as Dhahran Air Base and formerly Dhahran International Airport, Dhahran Airport and Dhahran Airfield, is a Royal Saudi Air Force base located in Dhahran in the Eastern Province, Saudi Arabia. Located west of Thuqbah and 7 km (4 mi) southeast of the Saudi Aramco Dhahran Camp, the airbase was the first Saudi Arabian airport to be constructed, in 1961, and is under the command of Air vice-marshal Prince Turki bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. Khalid bin Bandar Al Saud ( ar, الأمير خالد بن بندر بن عبد العزيز آل سعود; born 1951) is a Saudi Arabian soldier and member of the House of Saud, who served as the president of General Intelligence, the deputy defense minister and as the governor of the Riyadh Province.
