Gavin Trippe
Gavin Trippe (1940 - 2 July 2018) was a motorcycle racing promoter, journalist, and publisher who was inducted to the Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2005. He died following an automobile accident in California. Trippe was a motorcycling journalist in the UK until he founded a motorcycling magazine, ''Motor Cycle Weekly'', in the United States in 1969. In the early 1970s he brought European style motocross racing to the US by founding the Carlsbad USGP. Trippe was also the creator of supermoto racing, which attracted a large US television audience from 1979–1985, and had a resurgence, first in Europe and then beyond, since the early 2000s. Since 2007 Trippe worked to create a single cylinder racing class with low barriers to entry for amateur racers and young riders. Leo Trippe
Leonard Lawton Trippe (November 20, 1891 – 1964) was an American-born Canadian hardware merchant, farm implement dealer and political figure in Saskatchewan. He represented Turtleford from 1948 to 1952 in the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan as a Liberal. He was born in Schuyler, Nebraska, the son of Dr. E.R. Trippe, and was educated in the United States. In 1917, Trippe married Maude Wright. Juan Trippe
Juan Terry Trippe (June 27, 1899 – April 3, 1981) was an American commercial aviation pioneer, entrepreneur and the founder of Pan American World Airways, one of the iconic airlines of the 20th century. He was involved in the introduction of the Sikorsky S-40, which opened trans-Pacific airline travel, the Boeing 307 Stratoliner which introduced cabin pressurization to airline operations, the Boeing 707 which started a new era in low cost jet transportation, and the Boeing 747 jumbo jets. Trippe's signing of the 747 contract coincided with the 50th anniversary of Boeing. John Trippe
John Trippe (1785 – 9 July 1810) was an officer in the United States Navy during the Quasi-War with France and the First Barbary War. Biography Born in Dorchester County, Maryland, Trippe was appointed a midshipman in the Navy on 5 April 1799. During the Quasi-War with France, he made his first cruise in the frigate USS Constitution, ''Constitution'' and later served in the schooner USS Experiment (1799), ''Experiment''. On 21 May, he was assigned to Commodore Richard Dale's flagship USS President (1800), ''President'', and he served in her until early 1802 in operations against the Tripolitan Privateer, corsairs in the Mediterranean. He returned to the United States in April 1802 and received a furlough to make a mercantile voyage. Robert Pleasant Trippe
Robert Pleasant Trippe (December 21, 1819 – July 22, 1900) was an American politician, lawyer and jurist from the state of Georgia. Biography Trippe was born near Monticello in Jasper County, Georgia, and later moved with his family to an area near Culloden, Georgia. He attended Randolph Macon College in Ashland, Virginia, before graduating from Franklin College at the University of Georgia in Athens in 1839. While at Franklin College, he was a member of the Phi Kappa Literary Society. He then studied law, was admitted to the state bar in 1840 and began the practice of law in Forsyth, Georgia. In 1849, Trippe was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives and held that position until 1852 when he unsuccessfully ran for the United States House of Representatives. Trippe Holly Grove Cemetery
Holly Grove Cemetery is a historic cemetery, located on the south side of Crooked Bayou Drive, southeast of McGehee, Arkansas. The cemetery is the only surviving remnant of the community of Trippe Junction, established in 1857 by the families of William Fletcher Trippe and his brother-in-law Benjamin McGehee. A railroad spur line was constructed to the area in 1877, and a small town grew up around it. By the 1920s all of its businesses had failed, and by 1930 all but one building had succumbed to fire. The Holly Grove Methodist Church adjoined the cemetery, and was the site of many funeral services. The church was serving as a school when it burned in 1913. In 1958, a group of citizens raised money to assist with maintenance and upkeep of the cemetery. A bicentennial marker was erected by the Desha Historical Society in 1974. Desha County, Arkansas
Desha County ( ) is a county located in the southeast part of the U.S. state of Arkansas, with its eastern border the Mississippi River. At the 2010 census, the population was 13,008. It ranks 56th of Arkansas's 75 counties in terms of population. The county seat is Arkansas City. Located in the Arkansas Delta, Desha County's rivers and fertile soils became prosperous for planters under the cotton-based economy of plantation agriculture in the antebellum years and late 19th century. Still largely rural, it has suffered population losses and economic decline since the mid-20th century. But following widespread farm mechanization, Desha County underwent a demographic and economic transformation. Farm workers left the area because of the lack of work, and there was a decline in population.
