Trinity Episcopal Cathedral is an historic church building at 310 West 17th Street in Little Rock, Arkansas, United States. It is the seat of the Diocese of Arkansas and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. History The fundraising for constructing the cathedral was done entirely by the Rt. Rev. Henry Niles Pierce, who was the fourth missionary bishop and the first diocesan bishop of Arkansas. He went on preaching tours on the East Coast of the United States, procured private gifts, and mortgaged his own house. The church itself was built in three stages as finances allowed. The nave and the baptistery were completed first and the first service was held in the cathedral on October 19, 1884. On that same date the cathedral was formally established. The Trinity Episcopal Cathedral is a cathedral church in Sacramento, California, United States. It is the seat of the Episcopal Diocese of Northern California. History The first Episcopal services were held in Sacramento in 1847 by the Rev. F. S. Mines of Trinity Church, San Francisco. Grace Church was founded the following day. Trinity had its beginnings as St. Andrew's Mission in 1897 with the Rev. Alfred George as Missionary. From 1900 to 1903, it was reorganized as Trinity Church and a new church building was constructed. In 1910 Trinity was named the pro-cathedral by the Rt. Rev. William Hall Moreland. The Very Rev. John R. Atwill was named the first dean. Some of the parishioners objected and petitioned that Trinity be maintained as a parish, but to no avail. Trinity Episcopal Cathedral is an Episcopal cathedral in San Jose, California. It is the seat of the Episcopal Diocese of El Camino Real. History San Jose was visited by the Right Rev. William Ingraham Kip shortly after he arrived in San Francisco in 1854 as the first Episcopal bishop of the Diocese of California. He conducted the city's first Episcopal service at the Independent Presbyterian Church (later renamed First Presbyterian Church). He visited San Jose occasionally until the Rev. Sylvester S. Etheridge arrived in late 1860. The following year the congregation organized itself as Trinity Church. Services were initially held in the firehouse on North Market Street and then in City Hall. Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, formerly known as Grace Cathedral, is the historic cathedral in the Diocese of Iowa. The cathedral is located on the bluff overlooking Downtown Davenport, Iowa, United States. Completed in 1873, Trinity is one of the oldest cathedrals in the Episcopal Church in the United States. The congregation was established in 1870, and they held their first services in a schoolhouse. By 1873 they were able to buy the lot on which the school stood, and in December 1875 they completed a new church. The parish bought the property the present church building is located on in the 1920s. Local architect Frederic DeLongchamps designed a new church building, and the congregation was able to complete the lower level of the church in 1929. This served all the parish's needs until the present church was completed in 1949. The upper church was designed by John N. Tilton, then a professor at Cornell University. Dr. Alfred Baker, rector of Trinity Church in Princeton, New Jersey, has the first recorded mention of a cathedral for the Diocese of New Jersey in a plan he proposed at the Diocesan Convention of 1908. The Rt. Rev. John Scarborough approved of Baker's plan and established a committee of five clergy and five laymen to study the possibility of establishing a cathedral system in the diocese. A plan was proposed and adopted the following year and Bishop Scarborough appointed a Provisional Cathedral Chapter of ten clergy, ten laymen and the Chancellor. Trinity Cathedral is an Episcopal Church in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is the cathedral for the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh. The present Gothic church was completed in 1872 on the site of a hilltop cemetery on land deeded by heirs of Pennsylvania founder William Penn to the congregation's founders. The site, centered on a terrace above the historic "point" (where the Allegheny River and the Monongahela River join to form the Ohio River) was sacred to Native Americans as a burial ground. Trinity Episcopal Church, now known as Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, is the first Episcopal and the oldest surviving sanctuary in Columbia, South Carolina. It is a Gothic Revival church that is modeled after York Minster in York, England. It was named to the National Register of Historic Places on February 24, 1971. Trinity Church is on east side of Sumter Street between Gervais and Senate Streets. It is directly east of the South Carolina State House.
