Triathlon At The 2016 Summer Olympics – Men's
The men's triathlon at the 2016 Summer Olympics took place at Fort Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro on 18 August. A total of 55 men from 31 nations competed in the race. Alistair Brownlee from Great Britain became the first man to defend his Olympic triathlon title after his previous win at the 2012 Summer Olympics. His younger brother Jonathan Brownlee finished in second place and added another Olympic medal to his collection after his bronze one from 2012. Henri Schoeman took the bronze and became the first South African to win an Olympic triathlon medal. Course The event took place in Fort Copacabana. It consisted of a single 1.5 kilometres swim lap along the Copacabana beach. The competitors then completed a 38.48 kilometres bike leg consisting of eight 4.81 kilometres laps. The triathletes then ran four 2.5 kilometres laps to the finish line. Fort Copacabana
Fort Copacabana ( pt, Forte de Copacabana, ) is a military base at the south end of the beach that defines the district of Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro. The base is open to the public and contains the ''Museu Histórico do Exército'' (Army Historical Museum) and a coastal defense fort that is the actual Fort Copacabana. History The fort is built on a headland that originally contained a small chapel holding a replica of the Virgen de Copacabana, the patron saint of Bolivia. In 1908 the Brazilian army started to build a modern coastal defense fort on the headland to protect both the beach of Copacabana and the entrance to the harbour of Rio de Janeiro. The fort, completed in 1914, consists of two armoured cupolas, one holding a pair of Krupp cannons, and the other a pair of Krupp cannons. Vincent Luis (born 27 June 1989 in Vesoul, France) is a French professional triathlon, triathlete. Besides his many World_Triathlon_Series, WTS wins and participations to the 2012 Summer Olympics and 2016 Summer Olympics, he won the ITU World Triathlon Series, ITU World Championship in 2019 and 2020, and the Mixed Relay Team World Championship with the French national team in 2015, 2018 and 2019. Ryan Sissons (born 24 June 1988) is a New Zealand triathlete. Born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Sissons represented New Zealand at the 2012 London Olympics in the triathlon where he finished 33rd. Tyler Mislawchuk (born August 19, 1994) is a Canadian triathlete. Mislawchuk's hometown is Oak Bluff, Manitoba.
