George Nelson Tremper
George Nelson Tremper (May 30, 1877 – February 23, 1958) was an educator and principal of Kenosha High School from 1911 to 1944. Kenosha Tremper High School is named in his honor. Biography Early life and education George Nelson Tremper was born May 30, 1877, in Pontiac, Michigan. He married Metta Robins on September 19, 1901. After completing his education at the University of Michigan, the Trempers taught for three years in then unsettled Philippines. Following their return to America, Tremper taught in Franklin, Indiana, and later went on to become a principal in a Cincinnati high school. He also taught at the University of Illinois School of Education while he worked toward his master's degree. Kenosha Tremper and his wife then moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 1911, where he headed a 13 faculty staff as the new principal of then Kenosha High School. The school had just 300 students. George Nelson Tremper High School is a high school located in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Part of the Kenosha Unified School District, it was named after George Nelson Tremper, the principal of Kenosha High School from 1911 to 1944. The mascot of Tremper High School is the Trojan. History Built to relieve overcrowding at Bradford High School, the original school was completed in the fall of 1964, with the first class graduating in June 1965. A successful referendum in 2005 gave the school a new, larger field house, team locker rooms, and a new weight room. In the summer of 2009, the cafeteria was remodeled and expanded into the original commons. Will Tremper
Will Tremper (19 September 1928 – 14 December 1998) was a German journalist and filmmaker (writer, director, producer). He wrote twelve screenplays between 1956 and 1988. The young and then unknown actor Horst Buchholz starred in his first three films. With only a handful of films to his credit, he established himself quickly as the German answer to the directors of the Nouvelle Vague in France. Biography Will Tremper was born in Braubach, Germany to innkeeper Heinrich Tremper and his wife Emilie and died in Munich, Germany. Tremper arrived in 1944 in Berlin at the age of 16, to work as a photographer. He survived the war unharmed and started working for a newly established Berlin newspaper Der Tagesspiegel. Mount Tremper
Mount Tremper, officially known as Tremper Mountain and originally called Timothyberg, is one of the Catskill Mountains in the U.S. state of New York. It is located near the hamlet of Phoenicia, in the valley of Esopus Creek. At in elevation, it is well below the higher peaks of the region. Its slopes were a source of two major local products during the 19th century: hemlock bark, a source of tannin, and bluestone used in construction. Later it was the site of Tremper House, one of the Catskills' earliest railroad resorts. Henry Ward Beecher and Oscar Wilde were among the guests there. In the 20th century it was acquired by the state and became part of the Catskill Park Forest Preserve. Its location in the Esopus Valley between the northern and southern Catskills made it an ideal place for a fire lookout tower, which still stands on the mountain's summit. The Tremper Mound and Works are a Hopewell (100 BCE to 500 CE) earthen enclosure and large, irregularly shaped mound. The site is located in Scioto County, Ohio, about five miles northwest of Portsmouth, Ohio, on the second terrace floodplain overlooking the Scioto River. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. Site description The Tremper Works include a large earthen enclosure in the shape of a flattened oval. Measuring by , the oval was entered through an opening in the southwestern part of the enclosure. At the center of the oval is a large, irregularly shaped mound. Believed by some to be an effigy mound built in the shape of an animal, although there has never been any conclusive proof of this. The site was surveyed in the 1840s by Charles Whittlesey for E. G.
