Treasures (Tatsuro Yamashita Album)
is the compilation album by Japanese singer-songwriter Tatsuro Yamashita, released in November 1995. Background ''Treasures'' consists mostly of his singles released under Moon Records, Yamashita's own label which was established after completing his contract with RCA Records. At first, he was supposed to release the studio album entitled ''Dreaming Boy'' in autumn 1995. However, recording of the album ran aground, and the project itself was eventually postponed over the years. The artist decided to release "greatest hits" album instead, responding to the order of alternative release from the distributor EastWest Japan. ''Treasures'' was the first compilation album spanning his post-RCA materials. The album features his only chart-topping million-seller "Christmas Eve", and also includes other smash hit singles like "Get Back in Love", "Endless Game", and "Sayonara Natsu no Hi". Tatsuro Yamashita
, occasionally credited as Tatsu Yamashita or Tats Yamashita, is a Japanese singer-songwriter and record producer, who is known for pioneering the style of Japanese adult-oriented rock/soft rock music. His most well-known song is "Christmas Eve", the best-selling single song released in Japan in the 1980s, appearing on the Japanese singles chart for over 35 consecutive years. He is known for his collaborations with his wife, singer Mariya Takeuchi, on many songs including "Plastic Love" as well as with American songwriter Alan O'Day with whom he wrote hit songs "Your Eyes," "Magic Ways," "Love Can Go the Distance," and "Fragile." Mariya Takeuchi
is a Japanese singer and songwriter. Regarded as an influential figure in the city pop genre, she is one of the best-selling music artists in Japan, having sold over 16 million records, and has received several accolades. Her husband is Tatsuro Yamashita, a singer-songwriter and record producer. Takeuchi was born in Taisha, Hikawa district, now the city of Izumo, Shimane, and attended Keio University. She made her singing debut after signing with the RCA record label in 1978, with whom she released her debut album , which peaked at No. 17 on Oricon Charts. Eiichi Ohtaki
Eiichi Ohtaki (July 28, 1948 – December 30, 2013) was a Japanese musician, singer-songwriter and record producer. He first became known as a member of the rock band Happy End, but was better known for his solo work which began in 1972. In 2003, Ohtaki was ranked by HMV Japan at number 9 on their list of the 100 most important Japanese pop acts. Patrick Macias referred to Ohtaki as Phil Spector, Brian Wilson, George Martin and Joe Meek "synthesized into a single human being," and called his work "an encyclopedia of everything that was great about pop music in the 20th century." "Angel Baby" was a 1960 single by Rosie and the Originals. The group recorded the song independently on a Multitrack recording, two-track machine, located in a facility in the small farming community of San Marcos, California. At the time, lead singer Rosie Hamlin was only 15 years old. She had written the lyrics for "Angel Baby" as a poem for "[her] very first boyfriend" when she was a 14-year-old student at Mission Bay High School in San Diego, California. Initially unable to find a label willing to distribute the song because of its unpolished sound, the group convinced a San Diego department store to pipe their master recording, master through the listening booths in the record department. The response from listeners prompted Highland Records to sign the band and promote the single. Since its release the song has become an oldies standard.
