Treasurer Of South Carolina
The South Carolina Office of the State Treasurer is a government organization responsible for all state government funds. The current treasurer is Republican Party (United States), Republican Curtis Loftis, who assumed office January 12, 2011. Responsibilities The South Carolina Treasury Department is responsible for banking the annual budget passed by the South Carolina General Assembly. In 2022, the state budget was over $34 billion. The treasurer is a member of the State Fiscal Accountability Authority, a state board which also includes the governor, the comptroller general, and the chairs of the budget committees in the General Assembly. Curtis Loftis
Curtis M. Loftis Jr. (born September 8, 1958) is an American politician, businessman and philanthropist. He currently serves as the Treasurer of South Carolina. A member of the Republican Party, Loftis has held elective office since 2010. Early life and education Loftis was born in Columbia, South Carolina. He attended Brookland-Cayce High School and graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1981. Loftis was twice elected president of the Student Senate and served as president of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Business and Philanthropy Loftis is the owner of several central South Carolina businesses and is involved in real estate. In 1999, Loftis established Saluda Charitable Foundation and remains the principal benefactor. The foundation's activities are faith-based and provide nutritional and housing services to orphans and the elderly. South Carolina General Assembly
The South Carolina General Assembly, also called the South Carolina Legislature, is the state legislature of the U.S. state of South Carolina. The legislature is bicameral and consists of the lower South Carolina House of Representatives and the upper South Carolina Senate. All together, the General Assembly consists of 170 members. The legislature convenes at the State House in Columbia. Prior to the 1964 federal ''Reynolds v. Sims'' decision by the U.S. Supreme Court, each county doubled as a legislative district, with each county electing one senator and at least one representative. Francis Lewis Cardozo
Francis Lewis Cardozo (February 1, 1836 – July 22, 1903) was an American clergyman, politician, and educator. When elected in South Carolina as Secretary of State in 1868, he was the first African American to hold a statewide office in the United States. Born free during the slavery time in Charleston, South Carolina to a mother who was a free woman of color, and a Sephardic Jew, Francis Cardozo studied at University of Glasgow and later at seminary. He served as a minister in New Haven, Connecticut, before returning to South Carolina in 1865 with the American Missionary Association to establish schools for freedmen after the American Civil War. After working in South Carolina during Reconstruction, Cardozo received an appointment in 1878 at the U.S. Department of Treasury in Washington, D.C. Grady Patterson
Grady Leslie Patterson, Jr. (January 13, 1924 – December 7, 2009) was a Democratic Party politician who served as the South Carolina Treasurer and a United States Air Force Lieutenant General. Born in Calhoun Falls, South Carolina, Patterson graduated from University of South Carolina. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army Air Forces, flying missions from Iwo Jima as a fighter pilot. In 1946, he became a member of the South Carolina Air National Guard serving in the Korean War and the Berlin Airlift. He also served as Chief of Staff for the South Carolina Air National Guard and Assistant to the Commander of the United States Air Force Logistics Command. Richard Eckstrom
Richard A. Eckstrom (born June 23, 1948) is an American politician from the state of South Carolina. A Republican, he served as the comptroller general of South Carolina from 2003 until his resignation in 2023. From 1995 to 1999, he served one term as the South Carolina Treasurer. When elected as Comptroller General, he was the first Republican to serve in the post since 1876. Early life Eckstrom was born in Duluth, Minnesota, on June 23, 1948. Thomas Jonathan Jackson Ravenel (born August 11, 1962) is an American politician and reality television star. He is the son of former Representative Arthur Ravenel Jr. from South Carolina.
