Transactions Of The Philological Society
''Transactions of the Philological Society'' is a linguistics journal published three times a year by Wiley-Blackwell on behalf of the Philological Society. It has appeared since 1854, making it the oldest scholarly linguistics journal. It is currently edited by Lutz Marten (SOAS University of London); Frans Plank and Nigel Vincent act as consulting editors. Next to the journal itself, an associated series of monographs is published, which is edited by Melanie Green. Lutz Marten
Lutz Marten is a German linguist and africanist. He is currently professor of general and African linguistics at SOAS University of London. Since 2020, he is also the editor of the Transactions of the Philological Society. Academic career After studying English language and literature, philosophy and African studies at the University of Hamburg, Marten joined SOAS for a Masters programme in linguistics in 1993, where, in 1995, he subsequently began his doctoral studies under the supervision of Ruth Kempson. In 1999, he completed his thesis entitled ''Syntactic and Semantic Underspecification in the Verb Phrase''. Research Between 2014 and 2018, Marten was the principal investigator of the research project ''Morphosyntactic variation in Bantu: Typology, contact and change'', which was funded by the Leverhulme Trust. Nigel Vincent
Nigel Vincent is a British linguist. He is Professor Emeritus of General and Romance Linguistics at the University of Manchester. He is best known for his work on morphology, syntax, and historical linguistics, with particular focus on the Romance languages. Vincent was elected a Fellow of the British Academy in 2006, and was Vice-President for Research and HE Policy at the Academy from 2010 to 2014. In 2013, he was elected a Member of the Academia Europaea. Monographic series (alternatively, monographs in series) are scholarly and scientific books released in successive volumes, each of which is structured like a separate book or scholarly monograph.
