Trance To The Sun
Trance to the Sun (1990–present) is a neo-psychedelic post-punk band originally based out of Santa Barbara, California. The band consists of multi-instrumentalist Ashkelon Sain (born Gregory Lloyd Sain) as the primary songwriter, performer and producer, and has featured three full-time vocalists—Ingrid Blue (also known as Ingrid Luna - born Ingrid Justina Holden) (1997–present), Dawn Michelle Wagner (1997), and Zoë Alexandra Wakefield (1993–1996). Trance to the Sun recordings have often included guest contributors, and tour line-ups have usually included one or more additional musicians. Currently, the band consists of Ashkelon Sain, Ingrid Luna, and Daniel Henderson, with additional live musician Terry Luna on bass guitar. Trance to the Sun has had a considerable impact on the dark wave, gothic rock and post-punk music scenes in the U.S. and abroad. Cocteau Twins was a Scottish rock band active from 1979 to 1997. They were formed in Grangemouth by Robin Guthrie (guitars, drum machine) and Will Heggie (bass), adding Elizabeth Fraser (vocals) in 1981 and replacing Heggie with multi-instrumentalist Simon Raymonde in 1983. The group earned critical praise for their ethereal, effects-laden sound and the soprano vocals of Fraser, whose lyrics often eschew any recognisable language. Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun
"Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" is a song by the English rock band Pink Floyd, appearing on their second album, '' A Saucerful of Secrets'' (1968). It was written by Roger Waters, taking lyrics from a Chinese poetry book, and features a drum part by Nick Mason played with timpani mallets. It is the only song recorded by Pink Floyd to feature material from all five band members, as there are several different guitar parts recorded by both David Gilmour and Syd Barrett. The song was regularly performed between 1967 and 1973 and can be heard on the live disc of the 1969 album ''Ummagumma'' and seen in the 1972 movie '' Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii''. Waters has also played the song on several solo tours, as has drummer Nick Mason. Faith And Disease
Faith & Disease was a Seattle-based ethereal wave music project who released their debut CD "Beauty and Bitterness" in 1994. Its core members are Eric Cooley (guitar/bass, songwriter, producer) and Dara Rosenwasser (vocalist, lyricist, co-writer). Biography The band was originally signed to Seattle indie label Ivy Records and more recently Projekt Records. They have released six full-length albums and dozens of compilation appearances including an EP with electronic artist Jeff Greinke Dream The Red Clouds released on Italian label Amplexus Records to their credit. Faith & Disease (aka Faith and Disease) played 300+ live shows during their time, including appearances at Bumbershoot, Folklife, headlining at the Convergence (goth festival), Convergence festival, NXNW, and an invite to the 1999 CMJ Music Festival, and extensive tours of the US in 1998, 1999 and 2001. This Mortal Coil
This Mortal Coil were a British music collective led by Ivo Watts-Russell, founder of the British record label 4AD. Although Watts-Russell and John Fryer were the only two official members, the band's recorded output featured a large rotating cast of supporting artists, many of whom were otherwise associated with 4AD, including members of Cocteau Twins, Pixies and Dead Can Dance. The project became known for its gothic, dream pop sound, and released three full albums, beginning in 1984 with ''It'll End in Tears''. Background Watts-Russell had founded 4AD in 1980, and the label established itself as one of the key labels in the British post-punk movement. Following several releases, Watts-Russell developed the idea of collaborating under the name This Mortal Coil. Cinder (previously known as Gordon Sharp; born 1961 in Linlithgow, West Lothian, Scotland), sometimes known as Cinder Sharp, is a Scottish singer, musician and record producer. She has led several music projects since 1976, the most significant and long-standing being Cindytalk. Cinder has gained a reputation for an unflinchingly experimental approach to music and ideas. Biography Cinder started a punk band called the Freeze whilst attending Linlithgow Academy in 1976. The Freeze was active between 1976 and 1981. Cinder moved to London in 1982, changed the band's name to Cindytalk and signed to the Midnight Music label.
