Saint Lucia, an island nation in the Caribbean islands, has a relatively large tourism industry. Choiseul Quarter
Choiseul District is one of the 10 districts (formerly called quarter) of the Caribbean island nation of Saint Lucia. Located on the southwestern side of the island, the district is home to 6,130 people, according to the 2019 census. The seat of Choiseul District is the town of Choiseul. History The Choiseul District/Quarter was originally known as ''Anse Citron'', and an independent parish was established in 1765. In 1769 a census was done and recorded 75 whites, 25 free coloured, 512 negroes and 69 estates in Choiseul. However, most activity was originally in the River Dorée area, south-east of Choiseul. An Anglican church at River Dorée was built in 1846 and the first school was opened in 1848. The area was primarily run by English plantation owners and by the end of the 19th century the population was approximately 4,000. Pigeon Island (Saint Lucia)
Pigeon Island is a islet located in Gros Islet in the northern region of Saint Lucia. Once isolated from the country in the Caribbean Sea, the island was artificially joined to the western coast of mainland in 1972 by a man-made causeway built from dirt excavated to form the Rodney Bay Marina. Composed of two peaks the island is a historic site with numerous forts such as an 18th-century British fort and Fort Rodney both used by the British to spy on French Ships from neighbouring Martinique. In 1979 it was named a national park and again in 1992 it became a national landmark under the control of the Saint Lucia National Trust (SLNT). Marigot Bay
Marigot Bay is located on the western coast of the Caribbean island country of Saint Lucia, 3.75 miles southwest from Castries and a short distance from the Saint Lucian National Marine Reserve. It is surrounded on three sides by steep, forested hills. History The inland portion of the bay forms a hurricane hole, used to shelter boats from hurricanes. Laborie Quarter
Laborie District is one of 10 districts (formerly quarters) of the Caribbean island nation of Saint Lucia. According to the 2002 census, the population of the Quarter was 7,414 people. The village of Laborie is located about south of Castries, the nation's capital. History The first inhabitants of the Laborie general area, migrating from South America around 1000 a.c., were probably the Arawak Amerindians. Laborie, a southwestern fishing village named after the French governor Baron De Laborie, was once a turtle habitat. Canaries Quarter
Canaries District is one of 10 districts (formerly called quarters) of the island nation of St. Lucia in the Caribbean Sea. In 2010, the population of the region was 2,009 people, and they are mainly fishers and agricultural workers. The main town in the area takes the same name as the district and is located down the western coast from Castries, the capital of the country.
