"Total Eclipse of the Heart" is the lead single by Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler from her fifth studio album, '' Faster Than the Speed of Night'' (1983) written and produced by Jim Steinman and recorded in 1982, released as a single by CBS/Columbia in 1983. The song, a duet with Rory Dodd, became Tyler's biggest career hit, topping the UK Singles Chart, and becoming the fifth-best-selling single in 1983 in the United Kingdom. "Bat Out of Hell" is a song written by Jim Steinman, for the 1977 album ''Bat Out of Hell'' and performed by Meat Loaf. It was released as a single in 1979, and again in 1993. Inspiration Like most songs on the album, the song was written about Peter Pan and the Neverland story. Steinman had intended for the song to appear on "a rock 'n roll sci-fi version of Peter Pan". Steinman finally completed the musical (which he started writing in 1968) in 2017. The UK Singles Chart is the official record chart in the United Kingdom. Until 1983, it was compiled weekly by the British Market Research Bureau (BMRB) on behalf of the British record industry with a two-week break each Christmas. The BMRB used motorcycle couriers to collect the sales figures taken up to the close of trade on Saturday. This data was compiled on Monday and given to the BBC on Tuesday to be announced on BBC Radio 1 at lunchtime and later published in '' Music Week''. On 4 January 1983, the chart was taken over by Gallup who expanded the chart from the Top 75 to the Top 100 and began the introduction of computerised tills which automated the data collection process.
