Torolf Prytz
Torolf Prytz (26 December 1858 – 16 June 1938) was a Norwegian architect, goldsmith and politician for the Liberal Party. He led the goldsmith company ''J. Tostrup'' of Oslo from 1890 to 1938, having inherited it from his grandfather-in-law Jacob Tostrup. He also served as Norwegian Minister of Industrial Provisioning from 1917 to 1918 and President of the Norwegian Red Cross from 1922 to 1930. Background He was born in Alstahaug in Nordland, Norway. He was the son of bailiff Eiler Hagerup Krog Prytz, Sr. (1812–1900) and his wife Anne Margrethe Thomessen (1820–1900). The family moved to Christiania (now Oslo) when he was 12 years old. Prytz went to Kristiania Technical School. After completing his education at the polytechnic college of the University of Hannover, he was an assistant of architects Georg Andreas Bull and Henrik Thrap-Meyer. Jacob Tostrup
Jacob Ulrich Holfeldt Tostrup (1 July 1806 – 31 January 1890) was a Norwegian jeweler, goldsmith and silversmith. Biography Tostrup was born at Hjelmeland, in Rogaland county, Norway. He was the son of infantry captain Nicolay Tostrup (1768–1858) and his wife Thale Margrethe Resen Holfeldt (1779–1860). He was born into a family with eight siblings. Around 13 years of age, he worked for a local silversmith. He started as a goldsmith apprentice in Bergen between 1823 and 1828. He then had short stays in St. Petersburg and Copenhagen. He received his journeyman's certificate in 1828. He then moved to Oslo, Christiania (now Oslo) and acquired burghership in 1832. In 1832, he founded the jewelers firm ''J. Oluf Tostrup
Oluf Tostrup (26 May 1842 – 21 July 1882) was a Norwegian goldsmith. He was born in Christiania as the son of goldsmith Jacob Tostrup (1806–1890) and his wife Lina Hjorthøy (1821–1890). He was a great-grandson of priest and topographer Hugo Fredrik Hjorthøy and a granduncle of Jakob Tostrup Prytz. He did not marry. His father was the founder and owner of the notable goldsmith company ''J. Tostrup''. He was thus brought into the goldsmith profession at an early age, and studied in Oslo, Berlin, Paris and Copenhagen between 1858 and 1865. In 1865 he returned to Norway, in 1870 he became a partner in ''J. Tostrup''. Influenced by art industry abroad, he did pioneering work in filigree design, as well as reviving vitreous enamel art in Norway. Christian Fürst
Christian Fürst (15 April 1860 - 8 January 1910) was a Norwegian architect. Personal life Christian Fürst was a Norwegian architect, born in Christiania (now Oslo), Norway on April 15, 1860, and died, on the 8th of January in 1910. He lived in Norway throughout his entire life and was responsible for designing at least four buildings. He was born to Hans Siegwardt Fürst (1826–94) and Anna Catherine Thalette Backer (1834-1921). One of three brothers, Valentin Fürst, Sr. (1870-1961), and Hans Siegwardt Backer Fürst (1877-1945), Christian Fürst joined his brother Hans in the business of architecture. During this time Norway was poverty stricken and undergoing much turmoil in relation to territory and independence lost to Denmark. Jakob Prytz
Jacob Prytz (12 June 1886 – 23 November 1962) was a Norwegian goldsmith and designer. Personal life Prytz was born in Kristiania on 12 June 1886, a son of architect, goldsmith and politician Torolf Prytz and Hilda Tostrup. He married Ingerid Juel in 1912, and they were parents of Grete Prytz Kittelsen. Career Prytz studied at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry from 1904 to 1908, and further at the academy in Hanau and at the Beaux-Arts de Paris. From 1913 he was artistic director in the family company J. Tostrup. He designed major parts of the company's collection at the 1914 Jubilee Exhibition, and this exhibition is regarded as his breakthrough as goldsmith. From 1914 he was assigned as teacher for the goldsmith class at the Norwegian National Academy of Craft and Art Industry. Gunnar Knudsen (19 September 1848 – 1 December 1928), born Aanon Gunerius Knudsen, was a Norwegian politician from the Liberal Party who served as the 11th Prime Minister of Norway twice from 1908 to 1910 and from 1913 to 1920. He also inherited a shipping company, and founded the shipping company Borgestad ASA. Early life and education Knudsen was born in 1848 at the medium-sized farm Saltrød at Stokken (now Arendal) in Aust-Agder. Norway. Grete Prytz Kittelsen (born Adelgunde Margrethe Prytz, June 28, 1917, Oslo, died September 25, 2010, Oslo), was a Norwegian goldsmith, enamel artist, and designer. She is one of the most well-known Norwegians in the Scandinavian Design movement, and has been referred to as the "Queen of Scandinavian Design". Through her work she contributed to internationalisation, innovation and scientific research. She was one of the few Norwegian practitioners who shaped the Scandinavian design style in the post-war era and is the periods’ most renowned Norwegian practitioner.
