Topsy-Turvy
''Topsy-Turvy'' is a 1999 British musical period drama film written and directed by Mike Leigh, starring Allan Corduner as Sir Arthur Sullivan and Jim Broadbent as W.S. Gilbert, along with Timothy Spall, Lesley Manville and Ron Cook. The story concerns the 15-month period in 1884 and 1885 leading up to the premiere of Gilbert and Sullivan's ''The Mikado''. The film focuses on the creative conflict between playwright and composer, and their decision to continue their partnership, which led to their creation of several more Savoy operas. The film received very favourable reviews, film festival awards and two Academy Awards for design. While it is considered an artistic success as an in-depth illustration of British life in the theatre during the Victorian era, the film did not recover its production costs. Leigh cast actors who did their own singing in the film, and the singing performances were faulted by some critics, while others lauded Leigh's strategy. Plot On the opening n ...

Plot In the year of 189–, an international auction is organized to define the sovereign rights to the part of the Arctic extending from the 84th parallel, the highest yet reached by man, to the North Pole. Several countries send their official delegates, but the auction is won by a representative from an anonymous United States buyer. Topsy Turvy (song)
"Topsy Turvy" is a song from Disney's 1996 animated feature ''The Hunchback of Notre Dame''. The song is 5:37 minutes long and is performed by Clopin. Synopsis The song is sung by the film's gypsy narrator Clopin. It is performed as he introduces the Feast of Fools, and continues up until they crown Quasimodo as the King of Fools. Christian Answers recounts the scene thus: "During the celebration, he is crowned 'King of the Fools' and finds himself falling instantly in love with the gypsy dancer Esmeralda. Joy turns quickly to sorrow as the crowd cruelly mocks and rejects him for his misshapen appearance, failing to see the charm which lies below his odd looks." Composition and context This song and " A Guy Like You" use "the Broadway line-dancing technique of stopping the song and then progressing its bloated performance from a standstill to proper tempo." Critical reception BBC.com wrote "Alongside the demonic is some nicely hammy comedy. 'Topsy Turvy' is a big showtime numbe ...

Disney Sing-Along Songs
''Disney Sing-Along Songs'' is a series of videos on VHS, betamax, laserdisc, and DVD with musical moments from various Disney films, TV shows, and attractions. Lyrics for the songs are sometimes displayed on-screen with the Mickey Mouse icon as a " bouncing ball". Early releases open with a theme song introduction (written by Patrick DeRemer) containing footage featuring Professor Owl and his class, seen originally in 1953 in two Disney shorts, '' Melody'' and '' Toot, Whistle, Plunk, and Boom'' (voiced then by Bill Thompson). Professor Owl (now voiced by Corey Burton) hosts some of the videos, while either Jiminy Cricket or Ludwig Von Drake host others. Later volumes, as well as the two Christmas videos, do not feature a host at all. Scenes with Jiminy Cricket and Ludwig Von Drake were taken from television programs, including the Walt Disney anthology television series and ''The Mickey Mouse Club'', which featured the characters in the 1950s and 1960s. It was the band's first album to feature longtime member Jim Sangster on bass. The album was given a positive review by Rolling Stone Magazine, in their July 17, 1986 issue. Reviewer David Fricke wrote that the album was “the perfect refresher, a bracing bop cocktail of daffy comic relief, canny pop songwriting, and punk-rock drive.” Band leader Scott McCaughney noted in 2020 that many of the album's songs remain in the band's setlists to the day. The album was later re-released as a two-for-one double CD with their first album, ''The Fabulous Sounds of the Pacific Northwest''. Netherlandish Proverbs
''Netherlandish Proverbs'' ( nl, Nederlandse Spreekwoorden; also called ''Flemish Proverbs'', ''The Blue Cloak'' or ''The Topsy Turvy World'') is a 1559 oil-on-oak-panel painting by Pieter Bruegel the Elder that depicts a scene in which humans and, to a lesser extent, animals and objects, offer literal illustrations of Dutch-language proverbs and idioms. Running themes in Bruegel's paintings that appear in ''Netherlandish Proverbs'' are the absurdity, wickedness and foolishness of humans. Its original title, ''The Blue Cloak or The Folly of the World'', indicates that Bruegel's intent was not just to illustrate proverbs, but rather to catalogue human folly. Many of the people depicted show the characteristic blank features that Bruegel used to portray fools. His son, Pieter Brueghel the Younger, specialised in making copies of his father's work and painted at least 16 copies of ''Netherlandish Proverbs''. Not all versions of the painting, by father or son, show exactly the same ...

Topsyturveydom
''Topsyturveydom'' (sometimes spelled ''Topsyturvydom'' or ''Topseyturveydom'') is a one-act operetta by W. S. Gilbert with music by Alfred Cellier. Styled "an entirely original musical extravaganza", it is based on one of Gilbert's Bab Ballads, "My Dream". It opened on 21 March 1874 at the Criterion Theatre in London and ran until 17 April, for about 25 performances. This was the first work shown at the newly built Criterion, and it was played together with ''An American Lady'', written and performed by Gilbert's friend, the dramatist and ''Fun'' magazine founder, Henry J. Byron. The musical score to ''Topsyturveydom'' does not survive, but amateur productions in recent decades have used newly composed scores or performed the work as a non-musical play. Advertisements for the work spelled the title "Topsyturveydom", whereas the license copy of the libretto, filed with the Lord Chamberlain's office, and now held in the British Library, spells it "Topsyturvydom". ''Topsyturveyd ...
