Top O' The Morning (1922 Film)
''Top o' the Morning'' is a lost 1922 silent film romantic drama directed by Edward Laemmle and starring Gladys Walton. It was produced and distributed by Universal Film Manufacturing Company. Plot As described in a film magazine, Geraldine "Jerry" O'Donnell (Walton), a winsome Irish colleen, is happy at the thought that she will soon visit her father and brother in America, but once there she finds her stepmother making her life unbearable, and she decides to run away. After leaving a farewell note to her father, she accidentally meets young American banker John Garland (Myers), who remembers her from the previous summer as a lass of Old Ireland. Learning of her plight, he offers to take her into his home as a governess to his little daughter Dot (Turner), who has adored Jerry since meeting her in County Kerry. Edward Laemmle
Edward Laemmle (October 25, 1887 – April 2, 1937) was an American film director of the silent era. He directed more than 60 films between 1920 and 1935. Biography Edward Laemmle was born in Chicago, Illinois and died in Los Angeles. He was the nephew of Carl Laemmle, founder of Universal Studios. His half sister was Carla Laemmle, dancer and actress and his brother was director Ernst Laemmle. He married Peppi Heller on April 8, 1923; the couple had two girls, Constance and Carlotta, and settled in Beverly Hills, California. Margaret Campbell
Margaret Campbell (April 24, 1883 – June 27, 1939) was an American character actress in silent films. In her later years she was the secretary of the Baháʼí Spiritual Assembly of Los Angeles. Career Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Campbell was the leading lady of the Bramhall Players. She appeared on Broadway in ''Lightnin (1918), ''Keeping Up Appearances'' (1918), ''The Silent Assertion'' (1917), ''Difference in Gods'' (1917), ''Keeping Up Appearances'' (1916), ''The Merchant of Venice'' (1913), ''Hamlet'' (1912), and ''Kassa'' (1909). Martha Mattox (June 19, 1879 – May 2, 1933) was an American silent film actress most notable for her role of Mammy Pleasant in the 1927 film '' The Cat and the Canary''. She also played a role in ''Torrent'' (1926). She died from a heart ailment at age 53. Biography Born in Natchez, Mississippi, Mattox attended East Mississippi College, where she studied dramatic art. A 1923 article in the ''Calgary Herald'' newspaper described her as "a full-blooded Creole", of Spanish descent on her father's side and French on her mother's. Her initial acting was on stage, including performances with the Marion Leonard Company. After working on stage, she began performing in films, initially in Westerns and action films and later in melodramas and comedies. Her film debut came in 1915, and she played a variety of roles in the silent-film era.
