''Top Room at the Zoo'' is the debut independently released album by English musician Lucy Spraggan. It was released in the United Kingdom on 20 October 2011. The album includes the song " Last Night", which she performed the song at ''The X Factor'' auditions in 2012. Background Originally Spraggan released the album independently in the United Kingdom on 20 October 2011. After she sang " Last Night" at ''The X Factor'' auditions the album peaked to number 2 on iTunes but the album had to be removed by request of ''The X Factor'' producers due to a rule change. She was told to take down her album and informed that all other ''The X Factor'' contestants this year have also been banned until the show is over, in order to give them the same level of exposure. In an interview Spraggan said a short-lived romance with an older woman of 27, when she visited America at the age of 18, inspired the majority of her album's lyrics. Lucy Spraggan
Lucy Honour Ruby Spraggan (born 21 July 1991) is an English singer-songwriter. She auditioned for ''The X Factor (UK series 9), The X Factor'' in 2012, performing her own composition, "Last Night (Lucy Spraggan song), Last Night". On 3 November 2012, it was announced she would be quitting her run on ''The X Factor'' due to illness, so she subsequently finished in ninth place, and second in her category. Following the show Spraggan was signed a recording contract with Columbia Records. Spraggan was the first contestant in the show's history to score a Top 40 single and album before the live shows aired, with her independently released album ''Top Room at the Zoo''. Her debut major label album, ''Join the Club (album), Join the Club'', was released on 7 October 2013, reaching number seven in the UK Albums Chart. ''Join the Club'' is the second and major-label debut studio album by English musician Lucy Spraggan. It was released on 4 October 2013. The album includes the singles "Lighthouse" and " Last Night (Beer Fear)". The album peaked at number 7 on the UK Albums Chart and number 6 on the Scottish Albums Chart. It was certified Silver by the BPI on the 12th of October 2018. Singles "Lighthouse" was released as the album's lead single on 28 June 2013. The song reached number 26 in the UK Singles Chart. " Last Night (Beer Fear)" was released on 29 September 2013, as the album's second single. "Last Night" is a song by English musician Lucy Spraggan, from her self-released album ''Top Room at the Zoo'' (2011). The song entered the UK Singles Chart at number 70 after performing the song at ''The X Factor'' auditions which was shown on 25 August 2012. Following a rule change regarding ''X Factor'' contestants, it was pulled from iTunes but early sales enabled it to finish at number 11 for the week. A new version of the song "Last Night (Beer Fear)" was released in the United Kingdom on 29 September 2013 as the second single from her debut studio album '' Join the Club'' (2013) Background Spraggan performed the song at The X Factor auditions; she was put through to bootcamp after performing the track. Judge Louis Walsh suggested that the song could go to number one in the charts. Shortly after the audition was screened, the song entered the UK Singles Chart at number 70. ''The X Factor'' is a British television music competition to find new singing talent. The ninth series began airing on ITV on 18 August 2012 and ended on 9 December 2012. Dermot O'Leary returned as presenter of the main show on ITV, whilst Caroline Flack and Olly Murs returned to co-present '' The Xtra Factor'' on ITV2. Louis Walsh, Gary Barlow and Tulisa returned as judges. Nicole Scherzinger was confirmed as the fourth permanent judge after Geri Halliwell, Leona Lewis, Rita Ora, Mel B, Anastacia and Scherzinger herself stood in as guest judges for the vacant position left by Kelly Rowland. After the show of 8 December, two of Scherzinger's acts, James Arthur and Jahméne Douglas, became the top two, meaning that Scherzinger was guaranteed to win. The Irish Albums Chart is the Irish music industry standard albums popularity chart issued weekly by the Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA). The charts were previously compiled on behalf of IRMA by Chart-Track, and have been compiled by the Official Charts Company since 2017. Chart rankings are based on sales, which are compiled through over-the-counter retail data captured electronically each day from retailers' Point of sale systems and certain digital retailers. All major record stores and over forty independents submit data for the charts, accounting for over 80% of the market, according to Chart-Track. A new chart is compiled and released to the public by the Irish Recorded Music Association on Friday at noon. Each chart is dated with the "week-ending" date of the previous Thursday (i.e., the day before issue). UK Albums Chart
The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data.
