Too Short
Todd Anthony Shaw (born April 28, 1966), better known by his stage name Too Short (stylized as Too $hort), is an American rapper. A pioneer of West Coast hip hop, Shaw was among the first acts to receive recognition in the genre during the late 1980s. His lyrics were often based on pimping and promiscuity, but also drug culture and street survival; exemplified respectively in his most popular singles " Blow the Whistle" and " The Ghetto." He is one of few acts to have worked with both Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G. during the height of their respective careers. Shaw began recording in 1983, and cultivated a regional following with three independent projects tailored for his native Oakland. His fourth album, '' Born to Mack'' (1987) sold an estimated 50,000 units from Shaw's car trunk, leading to a commercial re-issue by Jive Records the following year. His fifth album, '' Life Is... Promiscuity is the practice of engaging in sexual activity frequently with different Sexual partner, partners or being indiscriminate in the choice of sexual partners. ''Get In Where You Fit In'' is the eighth solo studio album by American rapper Too Short. It was released on October 26, 1993, through Jive Records, making it his fifth release for the label. Recording sessions took place at Dangerous Studios. Production was handled by The Dangerous Crew and Quincy Jones III. It features guest appearances from Ant Banks, Ant Diddley Dog, Father Dom, FM Blue, Mhisani, Pee Wee, Rappin' Ron, Ronese Levias and Spice 1. The album peaked at number four on the ''Billboard'' 200 and topped the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. It was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America on November 16, 1994. ''Shorty the Pimp'' is the seventh studio album by American rapper Too Short, released on July 14, 1992, by Jive Records. Five songs were produced by Ant Banks, four by Too Short himself and one song by D'wayne Wiggins. The album title is from the 1973 blaxploitation film of the same name, featuring a character of that name. The first track samples the theme song of the film; the soundtrack of the film was later collected in the funk album ''Shorty the Pimp'' by Don Julian & The Larks (who star in the movie). This album debuted at number 6 on the US ''Billboard 200'' chart with 82,000 copies sold in its first week. Chart rankings are based on sales (physical and digital), radio play, and online streaming in the United States. The weekly tracking period for sales was initially Monday to Sunday when Nielsen started tracking sales in 1991, but was changed to Friday to Thursday in July 2015. ''Short Dog's in the House'' is the sixth studio album by American rapper Too Short. The album was released on September 11, 1990, via Jive Records. The CD contains a number of both socially conscious songs, as well as dirty rap and sexually-explicit songs that have made Too Short famous. The album's production samples a number of classic P-funk records, as well as the heavy use of the Roland TR-808 for instrumentation. The laid-back beats (which Shaw himself dubbed "dope fiend beats") would be a major influence in hip hop years later (and would help cement Too Short's legacy as a pioneer of West coast hip hop), and the album was key in the development of West Coast born G-funk that dominated the charts for the next few years.
