Tony Stewart (Australian Politician)
Anthony Paul Stewart (born 23 November 1956), a former Australian politician, was a Member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing the electorates of Bankstown and Lakemba between 1995 and 2011 for the Labor Party. He was the Minister for Small Business, Minister for Science and Medical Research and Minister Assisting the Minister for Health (Cancer) in the New South Wales State Government from 8 September 2008 until 11 November 2008. He was dismissed by Premier Nathan Rees after allegations that he had verbally and physically harassed a staff member. The Speaker of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly is the presiding officer of the Legislative Assembly, New South Wales's lower chamber of Parliament. The current Speaker is Jonathan O'Dea, who was elected on 7 May 2019. Traditionally a partisan office, filled by the governing party of the time, O'Dea replaced the previous Liberal Speaker Shelley Hancock, following the 2019 state election. Role The Speaker presides over the House's debates, determining which members may speak. The Minister for Medical Research was a minister in the New South Wales Government and has responsibilities which included medical research in New South Wales, Australia. History The New South Wales government was involved in medical research since 1871 with the establishment of the position of Analytical Chemist. The NSW Medical Research Council was established on 18 September 1946 with objectives that included (1) carrying out a survey of medical research being conducted; (2) advising the government as to the expenditure of money upon medical research and the merits of reputed cures or methods of treatment. Verity Helen Firth (born 28 August 1973) is the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Social Justice and Inclusion) at the University of Technology Sydney. She was the chief executive officer of the Public Education Foundation in Australia and is a former politician. Morris Iemma (; born 21 July 1961) is a former Australian politician who was the 40th Premier of New South Wales. He served from 3 August 2005 to 5 September 2008. From Sydney, Iemma attended the University of Sydney and the University of Technology, Sydney. Westby James "Wes" Davoren (5 August 1928 – 21 September 2010) was an Australian politician. The City of Bankstown was a local government area in the south-west region of Sydney, Australia, centred on the suburb of Bankstown, from 1895 to 2016. The NSW Law Reports are the official reports of the courts of New South Wales, Australia. The reports are published by The Council of Law Reporting for New South Wales and cover selected cases heard in the Supreme Court of New South Wales. Each state in Australia has an official body which is responsible for the reporting of cases. At the Commonwealth level the responsibility rests with judges. The Commonwealth Law Reports are the authorised reports of the High Court of Australia.
