Tony Kelly (Australian Footballer)
Anthony John "Tony" Kelly (born 24 February 1963) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Originally from Trentham, Kelly began playing senior football for Kyneton in 1979. The following year he played in the Melbourne reserves, then returned to Kyneton. In 1982 he was at Victorian Football Association club Preston and was a member of the team which lost that year's grand final to Port Melbourne. From 1983 to 1985, Kelly played league football for Collingwood. He made five appearances in 1983, four in 1984, then just one in 1985. Before the beginning of the 1986 season, Kelly was let go by Collingwood. In Australian sport, the best and fairest award recognises the player(s) adjudged to have had the best performance in a game or over a season for a given sporting club or competition. The awards are sometimes dependent on not receiving a suspension for misconduct or breaching the rules during that season. In the Australian Football League (AFL), the Brownlow Medal is awarded to the player who, provided he has not been suspended during the season, receives the most votes from the umpires for being the Fairest and Best player in games during the home and away season.
