''Toni'' is a 1928 British thriller film directed by Arthur Maude and starring Jack Buchanan, Dorothy Boyd and Forrester Harvey. It was made at Elstree Studios (Shenley Road), Elstree Studios by British International Pictures and based on a play by Dion Titheradge. Arthur Maude
Arthur John Maude (23 July 1880 – 9 January 1950) was an English actor, screenwriter, and film director. Biography Maude was born Arthur John Maud on 23 July 1880 in Pontefract, West Riding, Yorkshire, to William Robert Maud (1849–1919) and his wife Lucy Monkman (1853–1929).''Birth and death certificates for Arthur John Maud, William Robert Maud and Lucy Maud (née Monkman)'' on file with the General Register Office for England and Wales. He would make the claim in later years that he was also the nephew of British general Sir Frederick Stanley Maude, the World War I hero of the Mesopotamia campaign, but this is not supported by British census returns and vital records. Maude began his career as a stage actor. Moore Marriott
George Thomas Moore Marriott (14 September 1885 – 11 December 1949) was an English character actor best remembered for the series of films he made with Will Hay. His first appearance with Hay was in the film '' Dandy Dick'' (1935), but he was a significant supporting performer in Hay's films from 1936 to 1940, and while he starred with Hay during this period he played a character called "Harbottle" that was based on a character Marriott usually played. His character Harbottle was originally created by Hay when he used the character in his "The fourth form at St. Michael's" sketches in the 1920s. Career Marriott was born at Alpha Place, Yiewsley, Middlesex, on 14 September 1885, the son of George Matthew Marriott (1859–1940), who was then a commercial traveller, and his wife, Edith Rousby, née Coleman (1864–1946).
