''Tomcattin''' is the fourth studio album of Southern rock band Blackfoot, released in 1980. The album features Shorty Medlocke, grandfather of band member Rickey Medlocke, on "Fox Chase". Blackfoot is an American Southern rock band from Jacksonville, Florida, formed in 1969. Though they primarily play with a Southern rock style, they are also known as a hard rock act. The band's classic lineup consisted of guitarist and vocalist Rickey Medlocke, guitarist Charlie Hargrett, bassist Greg T. Walker, and drummer Jackson Spires. They had a number of successful albums during the 1970s and early 1980s, including '' Strikes'' (1979), ''Tomcattin''' (1980) and ''Marauder'' (1981). ''Marauder'' is the fifth studio album of Southern rock band Blackfoot, released in 1981. The album continued in the same vein as their previous successes, '' Strikes'' (1979) and ''Tomcattin''' (1980). Opening up with the heavy "Good Morning", and including the ballad "Diary of a Workingman", ''Marauder'' also sported the hit "Fly Away", which reached No. 42, and another Shorty Medlocke appearance on the "Rattlesnake Rock n' Roller", this time with a spoken introduction and banjo solo. ''Marauder'' was the last of their albums that were purely hard, driving, rock – they unsuccessfully introduced synthesizers to their sound through the 1980s, and their popularity waned. ''Strikes'' is the third studio album by the American Southern rock band Blackfoot. It was released on March 7, 1979 through Atco Records. Recording sessions took place at Subterranean Studios in Ann Arbor, at Sound Suite Studios in Detroit, and at Bee Jay Studios in Orlando. Production was handled by Henry Weck and Al Nalli. The album debuted at number 183 on the ''Billboard'' 200 and later reached number 42. On April 18, 1986, it received a Platinum certification status by the Recording Industry Association of America. It features two singles: " Highway Song", which reached number 26 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, and "Train, Train", which reached number 38. "Train, Train" was originally recorded in 1971 by Rick Medlocke's grandfather Shorty Medlocke and his daughter, as Shorty Medlock & Mickey with the Fla. George Marino (April 15, 1947 – June 4, 2012) was an American mastering engineer known for working on albums by rock bands starting in the late 1960s. Biography Marino was born on April 15, 1947, in the New York City borough The Bronx. He attended Christopher Columbus High School there and learned to play the saxophone and bass fiddle in the high school band and was classically trained on guitar. Marino broke into the music business as a guitarist playing rock and roll in local New York City bands such as The Chancellors and The New Sounds Ltd. until most of the band members were drafted into the service for the war in Vietnam. In 1967, Marino landed his first job in the industry as a librarian and assistant at Capitol Studios. Soon after, he apprenticed in the mastering department alongside of Joe Lansky, cutting rock, pop, jazz and classical albums. Gregory Calbi (born April 3, 1949) is an American mastering engineer at Sterling Sound, New Jersey. Biography Greg Calbi was born on April 3, 1949, in Yonkers, New York, and raised in Bayside, Queens, New York. He graduated in 1966 from Bishop Reilly High School in Fresh Meadows. Calbi earned his bachelor's degree in Mass Communications at Fordham University where he studied with Marshall McLuhan and his staff for 3 of those years. Rickey Medlocke
Rickey Medlocke (born February 17, 1950) is an American musician, best known as the frontman/guitarist for the Southern rock band Blackfoot and a member of Lynyrd Skynyrd. During his first stint with Lynyrd Skynyrd from 1971 to 1972, he played drums and sang lead on a few songs that would initially be released on 1978's "First and Last". Medlocke would rejoin Blackfoot in 1972 and later returned to Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1996 as a guitarist with whom he continues to tour and record today. Being of Native American ancestry, specifically Lakota Sioux and Cherokee, Medlocke was inducted into the Native American Music Hall of Fame in 2008.
