Tom Jenkins (baseball)
Thomas Griffith Jenkins [Tut] (April 10, 1898 – May 3, 1979) was a utility player, reserve outfielder in Major League Baseball who played for the Boston Red Sox (1925–1926), Philadelphia Athletics (1926) and St. Louis Browns (1929–1932). Jenkins batted left-handed and threw right-handed. He was born in Camden, Alabama. In a six-season career, Jenkins was a .259 hitter (119-for-459) with three home runs and 44 run batted in, RBI in 171 games, including 42 run (baseball), runs, 14 double (baseball), doubles, six triple (baseball), triples, and one stolen base. He made 109 outfield appearances at right field (75), left fielder, left (32) and Center fielder, center (2). Jenkins died in Weymouth, Massachusetts at age 81. Outfielder
An outfielder is a person playing in one of the three defensive positions in baseball or softball, farthest from the batter. These defenders are the left fielder, the center fielder, and the right fielder. As an outfielder, their duty is to catch fly balls and ground balls then to return them to the infield for the out or before the runner advances, if there are any runners on the bases. As an outfielder, they normally play behind the six players located in the field. By convention, each of the nine defensive positions in baseball is numbered. The outfield positions are 7 (left field), 8 (center field) and 9 (right field). Run (baseball)
In baseball, a run is scored when a player advances around first, second and third base and returns safely to home plate, touching the bases in that order, before three outs are recorded and all obligations to reach base safely on batted balls are met or assured. A player may score by hitting a home run or by any combination of plays that puts him safely "on base" (that is, on first, second, or third) as a runner and subsequently brings him home. A center fielder, abbreviated CF, is the outfielder in baseball who plays defense in center field – the baseball and softball fielding position between left field and right field. Stolen Base
In baseball, a stolen base occurs when a runner advances to a base to which they are not entitled and the official scorer rules that the advance should be credited to the action of the runner.
