Tom Gilmore (rugby League)
Tom Gilmore (born 2 February 1994) is a rugby league footballer who plays as a or for the Widnes Vikings in the Betfred Championship. He played for the Widnes Vikings in the Super League and the Championship, and on loan from Widnes at the North Wales Crusaders and the London Broncos in the Kingstone Press Championship. Gilmore has also played for Halifax in the Championship, and on loan from 'Fax at the Salford Red Devils in the Betfred Super League. Background Gilmore was born in St Helens, Merseyside, England. Betfred Super League
The Super League (officially known as the Betfred Super League due to sponsorship from Betfred and legally known as Super League Europe), is the top-level of the British rugby league system. At present the league consists of twelve teams, of which eleven are from Northern England, reflecting the sport's geographic heartland within the UK, and one from southern France. The Super League began in 1996, replacing the existing Rugby Football League Championship First Division, First Division and, significantly, switching from a traditional winter season to a summer season. Each team plays 27 games between February and September: 11 home games, 11 away games, Magic Weekend and an additional 4 'loop fixtures' decided by league positions. England Knights (previously known as Emerging England and England A) is considered the feeder team for the England rugby league team. The Knights play a key role in the development of emerging talent, allowing players to gain experience in an international environment and to compete for a place in the England first team. Huddersfield Giants are an English professional rugby league club from Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, the birthplace of rugby league, who play in the Super League competition. They play their home games at the John Smiths Stadium which is shared with Huddersfield Town F.C. Huddersfield is also one of the original twenty-two rugby clubs that formed the Northern Rugby Football Union in 1895, making them one of the world's first rugby league teams. The club itself was founded in 1864, making it the oldest rugby league club in the world.
