Toledo Rockets Football Statistical Leaders
The Toledo Rockets football statistical leaders are individual statistical leaders of the Toledo Rockets football program in various categories, including passing, rushing, receiving, total offense, defensive stats, and kicking. Within those areas, the lists identify single-game, single-season, and career leaders. The Rockets represent the University of Toledo in the NCAA's Mid-American Conference. Although Toledo began competing in intercollegiate football in 1916, the school's official record book considers the "modern era" to have begun in 1951. Records from before this year are often incomplete and inconsistent, and they are generally not included in these lists. The 1973 Toledo Rockets football team was an American football team that represented the University of Toledo in the Mid-American Conference (MAC) during the 1973 NCAA Division I football season. In their third season under head coach Jack Murphy, the Rockets compiled a 3–8 record (1–4 against MAC opponents), finished in a tie for last place in the MAC, and were outscored by all opponents by a combined total of 288 to 229. Gene Swick
Gene Swick (born c. 1955) is an American former football player. He played college football as a quarterback for the University of Toledo from 1972 to 1975, and the Cleveland Browns selected Swick in the fourth round of the 1976 NFL Draft, but subsequently waived him during camp. In 1975, he set the NCAA Division I record with 8,074 career yards, which broke the previous record held by Jim Plunkett of Stanford and stood until surpassed by Mark Herrmann of Purdue in 1980. Early life He was born the son of a minister, Jack Swick, in Licking County, Ohio. His family moved often, and he attended Millersport High School and Oak Hill High School each for one year, and Hebron Lakewood High School for his final two years. Swick chose to attend the University of Toledo to play college football because they ran a pass-oriented offense, which many larger schools such as Ohio State did not at the time. 2011 Toledo Rockets Football Team
The 2011 Toledo Rockets football team represented the University of Toledo during the 2011 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Rockets were led by third-year head coach Tim Beckman during the regular season and new head coach Matt Campbell for their bowl game. They competed in the West Division of the Mid-American Conference and played their home games at the Glass Bowl. They finished the season 9–4, 7–1 in MAC play to be West Division co–champions with Northern Illinois. Due to their loss to Northern Illinois, they did not represent the division in the MAC Championship Game. They were invited to the Military Bowl where they defeated Air Force 42–41. At the end of the regular season, head coach Tim Beckman resigned to become the new head coach at Illinois.
