Tokyo International Film Festival
The is a film festival established in 1985. The event was held biennially from 1985 to 1991 and annually thereafter. According to the FIAPF, it is one of Asia's competitive film festivals and the second largest film festival in Asia behind the Shanghai International Film Festival, as well as the only Japanese festival accredited by the FIAPF. The awards handed out during the festival have changed throughout its existence, but the Tokyo Grand Prix, handed to the best film, has stayed as the top award. Other awards that have been given regularly include the Special Jury Award and awards for best actor, best actress and best director. In recent years, the festival's main events have been held over one week in late October, at the Roppongi Hills development. Events include open-air screenings, voice-over screenings, and appearances by actors, as well as seminars and symposiums related to the film market. is a subway station in Minato, Tokyo, Japan, operated jointly by Tokyo Metro and Toei Subway. ''Kiss of the Spider Woman'' () is a 1985 drama film directed by Héctor Babenco from a screenplay by Leonard Schrader, based on the 1976 novel of the same name by Manuel Puig. It stars William Hurt, Raul Julia, Sônia Braga, José Lewgoy, Milton Gonçalves, and Denise Dumont. Rajko Grlić
Rajko Grlić (born 2 September 1947) is a Croatian film director, producer and screenwriter. He is a professor of film theory at Ohio University and artistic director of the Motovun Film Festival in Motovun, Croatia. Biography Rajko Grlić was born in 1947 in Zagreb, SR Croatia, FPR Yugoslavia. His father was Danko Grlić, famous Croatian philosopher. Grlić's (Gerlich) family by father's side came to Zagreb from Schwarzwald, Germany in the 19th century, while his mother Eva (née Izrael) is from Jewish family of Sarajevo. He graduated from the Film Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU) at the same time as Emir Kusturica, a Bosnian film director. During the Croatian war of independence Grlić moved to the USA. In 2017, Grlić signed the Declaration on the Common Language of the Croats, Serbs, Bosniaks and Montenegrins. Yves Montand
Ivo Livi (; 13 October 1921 – 9 November 1991), better known as Yves Montand (), was an Italian-born French actor and singer. He is said to be one of France's greatest 20th-century artists. Early life Montand was born Ivo Livi in Stignano, a small village in the hills of Monsummano Terme, Italy, to Giovanni Livi, a broom manufacturer. Montand's mother Giuseppina Simoni was a devout Catholic. The family left Italy for France in 1923 following fascist Benito Mussolini's rise to power. Lana Gogoberidze ( ka, ლანა ღოღობერიძე) (born 13 October 1928 in Tbilisi) is a Georgian film director, as well as a former diplomat and member of parliament. Biography Gogoberidze's mother was Nutsa Gogoberidze, another notable female Georgian director. Her father, Levan Gogoberidze, was murdered as a part of the Great Purge in 1937, while her mother was sent to a prison camp for twelve years. Because of the situation with her parents, Gogoberidze was first sent to an orphanage and later taken in by her aunts. She also wanted to become a director, but the relevant education was not accessible to her because both her parents were being politically persecuted. She instead studied English and American literature, including the work of Walt Whitman, at Tbilisi State University. Wu Tianming (; December 5, 1939 – March 4, 2014) was a Chinese film director and producer who was considered one of the leading "Fourth Generation" directors. Biography Wu was born in Sanyuan County, Shaanxi Province, China on December 5, 1939. In 1960, aged twenty, he was accepted into a training class for film acting run by the Xi’an Film Studio. There were sixteen state-run studios in China at that time, and this was the closest to his home in Sanyuan, Shaanxi Province. He was put on the studio's payroll and had some bit-parts in the studio's productions of the early 1960s. In 1966, Mao's Cultural Revolution stopped productions in the studios. In 1974–1976, the last three years of the Cultural Revolution, Wu studied at the partly re-opened Beijing Film Academy, majoring in Film Directing.
