It is their first live album with original lead vocalist David Lee Roth and second live album overall after 1993's '' Live: Right Here, Right Now''. This album is the final live album to be released during Eddie Van Halen's lifetime, before his death on October 6, 2020 and is also their last release as a band, as they dissolved after Eddie's death. History The official press release announcing the album arrived on February 5, 2015. This was only after the information leaked a couple days earlier and after months of speculation. The album is Van Halen's first live album with their original lead singer David Lee Roth and third bassist Wolfgang Van Halen. Live Album
An album is a collection of audio recordings issued on compact disc (CD), Phonograph record, vinyl, audio tape, or another medium such as Digital distribution#Music, digital distribution. Albums of recorded sound were developed in the early 20th century as individual Phonograph record#78 rpm disc developments, 78 rpm records collected in a bound book resembling a photograph album; this format evolved after 1948 into single vinyl LP record, long-playing (LP) records played at  revolutions per minute, rpm. The album was the dominant form of recorded music expression and consumption from the mid-1960s to the early 21st century, a period known as the album era. Vinyl LPs are still issued, though album sales in the 21st-century have mostly focused on CD and MP3 formats. The 8-track tape was the first tape format widely used alongside vinyl from 1965 until being phased out by 1983 and was gradually supplanted by the cassette tape during the 1970s and early 1980s; the populari ...

Dance The Night Away (Van Halen Song)
"Dance the Night Away" is a song by American hard rock band Van Halen, and written by its group members. It is the second song from their 1979 album ''Van Halen II''. While the rest of the songs from this album had existed in various forms since their days doing demos and playing clubs, this song was possibly the only song written during the recording sessions for the album. Background The band members conceived the song during the recording sessions while they were standing in a circle humming to each other. It was inspired by Fleetwood Mac's "Go Your Own Way". Eddie Van Halen purposely left a guitar solo out of the final version of the song, replacing it instead with a riff of tap harmonics. David Lee Roth originally wanted to call the song "Dance, Lolita, Dance", but Eddie Van Halen convinced him that "Dance the Night Away" was more suitable and the chorus was changed to reflect that. Roth claimed, during a 2006 performance in San Diego, California, that he wrote this song ...

You Really Got Me
"You Really Got Me" is a song written by Ray Davies for English rock band the Kinks. The song, originally performed in a more blues-oriented style, was inspired by artists such as Lead Belly and Big Bill Broonzy. Two versions of the song were recorded, with the second performance being used for the final single. Although it was rumoured that future Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page had performed the song's guitar solo, the myth has since been proven false. "You Really Got Me" was built around power chords ( perfect fifths and octaves) and heavily influenced later rock musicians, particularly in the genres of heavy metal and punk rock. Built around a guitar riff played by Dave Davies, the song's lyrics were described by Dave as "a love song for street kids." "You Really Got Me" was released in the UK on 4 August 1964 by Pye Records as the group's third single, and reached number one on the ''Record Retailer'' chart the following month, remaining there for two weeks. It wa ...

Diver Down
''Diver Down'' is the fifth studio album by American rock band Van Halen and was released on April 14, 1982. It spent 65 weeks on the album chart in the United States and had, by 1998, sold four million copies in the United States. Background The album cover artwork displays the "diver down" flag used in many US jurisdictions to indicate a SCUBA diver is currently submerged in the area. Asked about the cover in a 1982 interview with Sylvie Simmons (''Sounds'', June 23, 1982), David Lee Roth said it was meant to imply that "there was something going on that's not apparent to your eyes. You put up the red flag with the white slash. Well, a lot of people approach Van Halen as sort of the abyss. It means, it's not immediately apparent to your eyes what is going on underneath the surface." While impressed by Roth's creative marketing spin, manager Noel Monk also explained the sophomoric sexual double-entendre "dive her down" in his 2017 band memoir ''Running With the Devil''. The ba ...

Oh, Pretty Woman
"Oh, Pretty Woman" or simply "Pretty Woman" is a song recorded by Roy Orbison, written by Orbison and Bill Dees. It was released as a single in August 1964 on Monument Records and spent three weeks at number one on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 from September 26, 1964, the second and final single by Orbison to top the US charts. It was also Orbison's third single to top the UK Singles Chart (for a total of three weeks). The single version (in mono) and the LP version (in stereo on the Oribisongs LP) have slightly differing lyrics. The LP version with the intended lyric: "come with me baby" was changed for the single to "come to me baby" as the former was considered too risque. The record ultimately sold seven million copies and marked the high point in Orbison's career. Within months of its release, in October 1964, the single was certified gold by the RIAA. At the year's end, ''Billboard'' ranked it the number four song of 1964. "Oh, Pretty Woman" was later used for the title of t ...

Released on March 23, 1979, it peaked at number six on the ''Billboard'' 200 and spawned the singles " Dance the Night Away" and " Beautiful Girls". As of 2004, it has sold almost six million copies in the United States. Critical reaction to the album has been positive as well, with ''The Rolling Stone Album Guide'' praising the "feel-good, party atmosphere" of the songs. Background and recording Recording of the album took place at Sunset Studio less than a year after the release of the band's 1978 debut album, ''Van Halen''. Recording of the album began on December 10, 1978, just one week after completing their first world tour, and was complete within a week. The band used a Putnam 610 console to record the album, similar to the console Eddie would later install in his home studio in 1983. Many of the songs on ''Van Halen II'' are known to have existed prior to the release of the first album, and are pr ...

Women And Children First
''Women and Children First'' is the third studio album by American Rock music, rock band Van Halen, released on March 26, 1980, on Warner Bros. Records. Produced by Ted Templeman and engineered by Donn Landee, it was the first Van Halen album not to feature any cover songs, and is described by critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine as "[the] record where the group started to get heavier, both sonically and, to a lesser extent, thematically." Background and recording The opening track, "And the Cradle Will Rock..." begins with what sounds like a guitar, but is, in fact, a phaser (effect), phase shifter-effected Wurlitzer electric piano played through Eddie Van Halen's 1960s model 100-watt Marshall Amplification, Marshall ''Plexi'' amplifier. Like the two preceding albums, ''Women and Children First'' was recorded in Hollywood at Sunset Sound Recorders, Sunset Studios, in about two weeks' time. The album is a progression, though, in that it features more studio Overdubbing, overdubs and ...

Everybody Wants Some!! (song)
"Everybody Wants Some!!" is a song by the American hard rock band Van Halen it is the second track off their 1980 album ''Women and Children First.'' It is one of the band's most popular songs, starting as a concert highlight throughout the band's early career. Chuck Klosterman of Vulture.com ranked it the 36th-best Van Halen song, writing that "Roth’s improvised rap is lascivious and fetishistic." Composition The song is rife with experimental features including a "jungle" drum and Tarzan-like vocal introduction and some new guitar playing techniques from guitarist Eddie Van Halen. The drum-vocal interlude or breakdown section has an improvised feel, with Roth ad-libbing conversational dialogue; for example, he begins the section by saying “I like…” before being cut off by Eddie striking a guitar chord, then finishes "I like the way the line runs up the back of the stockings". At the very end of the song, Roth quips, "Look, I'll pay you for it, what the fuck?" The las ...

Tattoo (Van Halen Song)
"Tattoo" is the first song and single from the album, ''A Different Kind of Truth'', from American hard rock band Van Halen. The single was released online and to radio stations January 10, 2012. History The song's structure is based largely on a song entitled "Down in Flames", which was written in 1977 and played live by Van Halen during their club days as well as their first world tour in 1978. When the band decided to cover Clint Ballard Jr.'s song "You're No Good" for their second album, ''Van Halen II'', they incorporated the intro from "Down in Flames" as the intro to their arrangement. A version of the song was worked on during the aborted 2001 reunion with Roth according to Ray Luzier. "Tattoo" became Van Halen's first single to chart on the American ''Billboard'' Hot 100 in 17 years, and their 23rd overall. Music video The music video was shot at the Roxy Theatre, Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, California while rehearsing for their then upcoming tour in late 201 ...

She's The Woman
"She's the Woman" is the second song and single from the album, ''A Different Kind of Truth'', from American hard rock band Van Halen. The single was released online and to radio stations February 28, 2012. This is the band’s last official single as a result of guitarist Eddie Van Halen's death in October 2020. History The song dates back to a demo written in 1976. A version of it was on the demo produced by Gene Simmons that landed Van Halen a record deal with Warner Bros. Records. In 2009, bassist Wolfgang Van Halen, son of guitarist Eddie Van Halen, picked up the tapes for the song from the 5150 Studios archives looking for tracks to record with his father and his uncle, drummer Alex Van Halen. A demo was done in August 2009, and some time later Eddie sent Pro Tools files of "She's the Woman", “Bullethead” and “Let’s Get Rockin’” — later retitled “Outta Space" — to singer David Lee Roth, who enjoyed the tracks and decided to join their project of a new Van H ...
